This is that; a bit more complex than the usual sweet rice vinegar that I usually use.I don't actually get ANY sweet from this.What hits my tongue first is almost a "malt" vinegar kind of flavor, but more subtle than that.Then I get almost a "nutty" kind of flavor.I like it and will be happy to use this in my arsenal to add great flavor to foods while adding very little carbs.I can see this in way more varieties of cooking than only Asian.It came in a nice secure box with the bottle secured with a foam piece at the top.The bottle itself was very securely sealed at the top, with a pull tab under the cap, once you get the outer seal off (might be a little workout for you; it was for me).If price is not a barrier for you, this is a hard departure from your ordinary rice vinegar.I hope this review has enabled you to make an informed purchase decision."Two thumbs up" (I rarely give an overall 5 star rating).

Fermented and brewed this Chuanzhe rice vinegar uses Sichuan Peppercorns to add depth and complexity. The vinegar is delicious added to everything from soups and stews to sauces, marinades and dressings. It may sound counterintuitive but a dash of the vinegar can be just what a bowl or ramen or a hot pot needs to perk-up the flavor. Very well cushioned within a sturdy carton the glass bottle arrived in perfect condition.The flip-top cap and neck of the bottle are encased in a thick shrink wrap. The wrap is too thick to tear away but there is a perforated line and running a knife around it permitted the removal, freeing the cap which after opening revealed a pull tab underneath. Point is care was taken to ensure its safe leak-free arrival. To estimate shelf-life at the time of this review in September 2021 the Best By date is 20 months in the future but dates will vary. Excellent.

I previously got and enjoyed Soeos' 3-Year Aged Superior Vinegar so I thought to give their Sichuan Pepper Vinegar a go. I'm glad I did. It has a fruity sourness and slight kick from the peppers though I wouldn't call it a spicy heat. The nearest product I can compare it to is Hengstenberger Altmeister German Seasoned Vinegar. It pairs really well with salad and seasoning tofu, fish, and fresh veggies. I plan on using it as the vinegar component of homemade hot sauce as well.I arrived well-packaged in a giftable box. Soeos goes to great lengths to ensure their bottles arrived intact and not leaking. If anything, the packaging can be a little too difficult to remove. I damaged the lid on my bottle while removing the inner seal. Otherwise, I've no complaints and am glad to have this in my kitchen's seasoning arsenal.Made in China~ Kort

Received: September 2021Best By: May 2023This Soeos Sichuan Pepper Vinegar is as tart and refreshing as our usual rice vinegars, but it also has much more depth of flavor that’s hard to describe. So glad that I tried it. The addition of Sichuan pepper is not hot, but it really expands the flavor of the vinegar. This vinegar is an awesome addition to stir frys, fresh pickles, etc. One reviewer commented that this is not sweet like his usual rice vinegar, but the rice vinegars that I buy have always been tart, similar to this Soeos Sichuan Pepper Vinegar, so this is very like what I’m used to. This is a nice vinegar with a robust flavor. The pepper gives it some depth (it isn’t ‘hot’ though). I was expecting a milder/sweeter flavor because I thought it would be similar to rice wine vinegars which do have a sweeter flavor, but this is not like the typical rice wine vinegars. It is tart (much tarter than rice wine vinegar) but not as tart as regular apple cider type vinegar. It is clear brown with a long shelf life (as expected for vinegar). It will be excellent to cook with but is probably too tart to use with raw veggies (I almost always have a container of sliced cukes and onions in vinegar, and this is too tart for that). So, for me it wasn’t exactly as I expected but it will be a nice cooking vinegar. I hope this is helpful info to you!
