I searched Amazon, hunter, and astronomy websites and could not find my exact requirements for a red ligh flashlight. The dimmable options are made of plastic and the others with low, medium, and high brightness settings often have a red light as a secondary option, and not necessarily the best red light for astronomy puposes (reading star maps; not messing with dark adjusted eyes). The flashlight is about 7 1/4" long with a diameter of about 1 1/4". (the 2.33" & 2.96" numbers the circumference measurements at either end of the flashlight). The 1 1/4 diamter" number is much more useful for understanding how it fits in your hand, which turns out to be actually perfect astronomy use and grip. There is an included wrist strap for attaching it to your hand. You could just as easily attach a longer strap so that you could hang it around your neck. While this flashlight has low, medium, and high brightness (lumens) levels (i.e. not fully dimmable), the brightest level is 90 lumens (note: for many other red light flashlights 90 or 100 lumens is typically the lowest, dimmest level). It's made of solid aluminum and is water resistant. All good for durability purposes. I also like that it uses a rechargeable lithium ion (USB charging wire inlcuded that connects to flashlight for charging). Finally, while I did not purchase it for the "handwarmer" function, it's good to know that this option is there should I ever need it.

This little guy is so bright! I bought it for a star party and will use it for many other night time excursions. It seems to be of great quality so the price makes sense.

This thing is amazing still! Fortunately I've never had to use the hand warmer, but I did test it out and it works good.The battery is the most impressive part. In the 2 and a half years I've had it, I've only charged it 3 times and it has never went dead. I've also used it to charge my phone a couple times also.
