The Confederate Morse Carbine: Myth vs. Reality Paperback – July 3, 2017

A very good book I purchased this after identifying this rare firearm from an individual. The gun is in shoot able condition which is amazing.A very well written and highly informative book. With information on manufacturing and where certain serial numbers were shipped.

Peter Schiffers has had a fascination of Confederate arms for a long time. It is interesting to note that he chose to cover this segment of the Civil War in terms of armaments which had to be virtually all imported as the South was basically an agricultural society, as opposed to the North - being an industrial society -where armaments were plentiful and surely outnumbered southern guns, but the effectiveness of their weaponry is clearly on the Confederate side. As icing on the cake - his illustrations with detailed descriptions are remarkable --it is truly a collectors item for us Civll War buffs. I was stationed at Ft Monroe Virginia - which remained the only Northern fort never to be taken by the South. I recently re-visited and was surprised to learn that Sgt Edgar Alan Poe was also stationed there - in 1840 - --

Superbe livre, rempli de photos d'époque colorisées, qui va bien au dela d'un simple récit sur une carabine. On y apprend que le général sudiste Lee était opposé à l'esclavage, tandis que le général nordiste Sherman y était favorable. Voila qui bat sérieusement en brèche le cliché "politiquement correct" des gentils nordistes contre les méchants sudistes. Il est vrai que le vainqueur impose toujours sa version de l'histoire.
