Hal Foster - Prince of Illustrators

The three stars isn't necessarily a reflection on the book itself, rather that it is more a biography of the artist rather than a book of his art which is what I was expecting. If you're wanting to know all about Hal Foster's life then this is the book for you, if like me you are after artistic inspiration or to simply gaze upon the beauty of his work and realise that you will never achieve that level of perfection... Then this is not the book you're looking for.

Great book with overall explanation of the comic strip in detail by pages of the strip as drawn, along with dates when they were issued, with amazing illustrations from Hal Fosters work. Very interesting details of the Man who draws Prince Valiant is also included. Hal Foster's creativity and storytelling ability comes thru in this book allowing one to better appreciate the comic strip when reading it.I used to read Prince Valiant along with other comics in the paper growing up, but now that I own all of Hal Foster's work in hard cover books, this book has become an integral part of my current reading of the strip from year to year. The book is a beautiful testament to a classic art form of Prince Valiant that has spanned from the golden age of comics to today's computer age.

Great book! If you are interested in comic strip history or comic strip art, this is the book for you. Hal Foster is the father of the comic strip adventure series, beginning with Tarzan and following with the beautiful and creative Prince Valiant. Das Buch wurde als gebraucht (sehr guter Zustand) beschrieben.Der Einband ist jedoch zerkratzt und sieht sehr mitgenommen aus. Außerdem sind auf den oberen Seiten merkwürdige Punkte (Schimmel?) zu sehen. Auch der Geruch ist nicht gerade angenehm. Schade!

This is an excellent book. Best known for Prince Valiant, Hal Foster brought his creativity to many other areas. He not only developed his illustrative skills but understood story flow and had a great command of writing. The work he produced only confirms the mastery and artistry he wielded . His paintings, cover work, personal sketches, and Tarzan work will bring you pleasure even if you aren't a Prince Valiant reader. The writing is informative and clean, providing a very enjoyable read. Remembrances by other artists are a nice bonus. I highly recommend this retrospective of one of the classics.
