Deathstalker 2

When I sit down to watch an awful movie, I always hope that it turns out to be one like this! Unlike Deathstalker I, number 2 has some intentional laughs mixed in with the unintentional ones. The oiled, He-Man impersonator from the first movie (played by a guy with 1 brain cell and no acting ability) is replaced by a fluffy, Bruce Campbell impersonator (who at least shows some spirit). The soundtrack is generic, adventure movie cheese instead of random banging and scraping noises. The nudity is gratuitous and plentiful but actually serves the plot - rather than just being a bunch of people who (embarrassingly) didn't notice their bits were out. On that topic, there IS a plot and there IS a sense of pacing, although they are both handled clumsily enough to avoid being accidentally good. The main characters show personality, there's a pointless female "heel" named after a type of raisin, rape isn't treated as casually as morning toast, Deathstalker gets punished for schmoozing too many women, and there are outtakes in the credits!So many good times!

Even the music at times was terrible. The movie is very dumb, with tongue in cheek jokes that will elicit groans. But that is the essence of a very good B movie, and this checks all the boxes. This was a joy to watch because it was so much fun. And yes, so stupid.

Acting level: Cheap porn. Production level: Strobe light. Plot level: Saturday morning budget cartoon that gets cancelled after one season. Pacing and balance: Remarkably good. The cast and crew knew what they were working with and never tried to reach beyond their grasp. Instead, they had fun with this and made a surprisingly entertaining film with a smirk on their faces. Culminates in a cheesy, mock-violent, sexually gratuitous comedy that's much better than the sum of its parts. Basically the Casablanca of cheap b-movie sexploitation sword-and-sorcery films. [Note: The guy who plays Deathstalker is actually a pretty decent comic actor who rises a level above said cheap-porn-level, though he's clearly hamming it up and phoning it in]. Glad to run across this for the first time, three decades after the fact. B-Movie classic.

Deathstalker II is a total "bro" movie I saw as a kid that still holds up when viewed on a movie night with a group of friends and a few pizzas. It's a total cheese-ball "B" movie with lots of sexual innuendo and physical humor typical of 1980's comedies. The pacing is a lot faster than most other fantasy movies of this era. Worth a watch if you love D&D, swords & sorcery, and all that good stuff (even if just to make fun of).

Just watched this for the first time, going in expecting the very minimum. I was amazed to find that I really enjoyed it. The other reviews are right. It’s “B” in every sense of that designation, but it’s “B” done right. I just kept watching and found it to be a lot of fun. It’s possible for movies to just be fun and not serious. Go into this moving with that idea, and you’ll really like it. The acting is bad, but it’s a good kind of bad. It’s very clear they all were having a lot of fun while making this film. Bravo.

Deathstalker 2 is a fine example of what happens when the film's creators decide "To Hell With It" and make the movie THEY want to make. It's probably a perfect example of just how good a B-Movie can be. Conan it is not.The acting is poor - many of the effects and scenes are shamelessly torn straight out of other movies - and they had to recycle the same three swordsmen over and over again with a variety of different masks - but if anyone were to ever make a parody of the 1980s swords-and-sorcery genre... well, Deathstalker II has already done it - perhaps unwittingly.Forget Deathstalker 1, 3 and 4. You don't need to watch them to enjoy this one. In fact, they're terrible.This, however, is a classic.

An excellent diversion. The tale of a handsome rogue who embarks on a quest to save a princess who is also a subpar fortune teller. The two are beset by "zombies", "amazons" and mercenaries with the ever present gratuitous nudity in an effort to remain relevant and enter the "history books". Trash. Glorious priceless trash. The acting is wooden, the sword design is painful (certified sword geek judgment)...blah blah standard wine sipping critic offering critique nonsense. Here's what it really offers; the hero is a "bad boy" that is ultimately good, but not in a 'heart of gold' bs sort of way. The princess has a tinge of sassy (in a good way....never thought i'd say that). All in all a very genuinely likable princess....no really the box art says to the unwary '' you are here for boobage'' NO! this is someone who would actually be pleasant to be around. any way. the rest is hyper masculine and feminine. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

It seems the producers behind the 1983 mini-classic 'Deathstalker' didn't feel they had quite reached the requisite level of cinematic nirvana with their first entry and so, within a mere 4 years (which to be fair, may as well have been decades when it came to sequalisation in the '80s) cranked out a sequel that not only bettered said first movie, but almost became THE gold standard for loin-clothed, big boobage led fantasy shenanigans. Almost. Helmed by everyone's favourite purveyor of low budget schlock, one James of the Wynorksi - here he creates what may be his one defining moment. However, enough of that - let's dive right in...Ignoring the events of the previous movie, muscle bound hero-for-hire Deathstalker (here essayed by John Terlesky, replacing Rick Hill) finds himself in hot water when he rescues Reena the Seer (Monique Gabrielle) from a gang of ne'er-do-well's. Entranced by her ... erm, eyes - 'ol Stalker is convinced to help Reena even further when she asks him to help regain her kingdom. What, you say? A kingdom? What kingdom? Y'see, Reena is actually a princess named Evie in disguise, but she’s been overthrown by evil wizard Jarek (John Lazar) and his henchwoman, Sultana (Toni Naples) who have created an an evil doppelganger to take her place in an effort to take control of her people. Cue a whole heap of unrelated drivel which includes an impromptu wrestling match, a bevvy of topless ladies every five or so minutes and many moments of badly choreographed fight sequences that would make Errol Flynn facepalm his way out of the stratosphere.However, this movie is brilliant! Not in a 'Citizen Kane' kind of brilliant, mind - more of a 'this is so bad, it's amazing' kinda way with 85 minutes of pure silliness that hits the mark more times that it misses. Lantern jawed lead Terlesky is a delight and eager Wynorksi fans will notice him from other Jim-joints 'Chopping Mall' and 'Hard Bounty'. Here he picks up the mantle from Rick Hill and runs with the role, ensuring everything is played for laughs and his charm really shines through. This guy should have been in more movies - he was pretty awesome back in the day. Wynorki's partner of the time Monique Gabrielle takes on the dual role of Evie and Reena - she's drop dead gorgeous and seems more than up for the stupidity, making the part her own. Apparently, it took three writers to concoct this absurdity (with from what I've read, Terlesky adding to the screenwriting party) and its easy to scoff at it's bargain basement budget and low brow humour, but for me, it's a thoroughly fun ride that is fully aware of itself and the infectious nature of the anything goes screenplay keeps you hanging in there for more.This German Blu-ray release sports a fine transfer - much akin to their release of the first movie. It comes in a media-book style case, alongside a short booklet - making this a very neat package, indeed. All in all, I loved this one but again like the first movie, it treats women less than favourably so those who are easily offended may not take to it's 'of the time' charms. Recommended, with caution.

… eine ausgeklügelte Story, epische und perfekt choreographierte Schlachtszenen sowie gruselige Szenen mit aus ihren Gräbern auferstandenen Toten, bei denen „The Walking Dead“ echt einpacken können.Ist natürlich nur ein Scherz!„Deathstalker II“ aus dem Jahr 1987 von Regisseur Jim Wynorski („Das grüne Ding aus dem Sumpf“) ist ein perfekter Fantasy-Trash-Film, bei dem wie zuvor beim ersten Teil aus dem Jahre 1983 keinesfalls eine Story wie bei „Conan – Der Barbar“ erwartet werden darf. Der den Todesjäger“ verkörpernde John Terlesky ist nun mal auch kein Arnold Schwarzenegger.Dennoch weiß „Deathstalker II“ einen wirklich sehr gut zu unterhalten. Die kaum vorhandene Handlung dient vor allem dazu, hübsch anzusehende und leicht bekleidete Frauen zu zeigen. Den optischen Höhepunkt bietet zweifellos Monique Gabrielle („Emmanuelle 5“, „Das grüne Ding aus dem Sumpf“) in ihrer Doppelrolle als Seherin Reena und als böser Prinzessinnen-Klon. Die ebenfalls attraktive und die böse „Sultana“ spielende Toni Naples sieht hingegen irgendwie aus wie die Domina-Version der Nanny „Fran Fine / Fran Drescher“.Daneben gibt es noch einen amüsanten Ringkampf zwischen dem „Todesjäger“ und einer riesigen Amazone sowie ein „Pendel des Todes“ zu sehen.Jetzt vielleicht zum Wichtigsten für diejenigen, die den Film bereits kennen:Die „Limited Vintage Edition“ im gut gemachten Mediabook enthält auf der Blu-ray den „Director's Cut“ und auf der DVD die „Uncut Kinofassung“.Die Bildqualität von „Deathstalker II - Director's Cut“ auf der Blu-ray im anamorphen Breitbild-Format 1.85:1 ist wirklich gut bis sehr gut für diesen doch schon 33 Jahre alten Film. Das Bild ist sehr sauber und klar. Die Schärfe ist gut bis teilweise sehr gut. Ganz selten ist das Bild in dunkleren Szenen leicht grießelig (körnig). Dies ändert aber nichts am sehr guten Gesamteindruck. Auch die Tonqualität sowie die Filmmusik an sich sind gut.Die Bildqualität von „Deathstalker II – Uncut Kinofassung“ auf der DVD im Vollbildformat 1.33:1 ist noch gut. Das Bild ist relativ scharf. Allerdings gibt es teilweise leichte Verschmutzungen in Form von „Blitzern“ zu sehen. Im Gegensatz zum „Director's Cut“ auf der Blu-ray ist das Bild allerdings nicht ganz so farbenfroh und etwas blasser. Die Tonqualität sowie die Filmmusik an sich sind ebenfalls gut.Die Laufzeit des „Director's Cut“ auf der Blu-ray beträgt knapp 78 Minuten und ist daher kürzer als die „Uncut Kinofassung“ auf DVD (Laufzeit hier 85 Minuten). Der „Director's Cut“ wurde um einige Szenen gekürzt (u.a. das „Schlammcatchen“ in der Taverne), die aus dem vorherigen ersten Teil stammen und für den zweiten Teil offenbar recycelt wurden. Längere Handlungsszenen wurden ebenfalls wieder aus dem Film gekürzt, darunter ein Treffen von Sultana und der Prinzessin, die sich gegenseitig angiften und eine längere Szene, in der sich Reena zusammen mit der Amazonenkönigin massieren lässt, obwohl sie lieber dem Todesjäger helfen würde.Diese eben genannten Szenen sind hingegen alle in der „Uncut Kinofassung“ auf der DVD enthalten.Daneben unterscheidet sich der „Director's Cut“ von der „Uncut Kinofassung“ auf DVD dadurch, dass das Bild wegen des Formats 1.85:1 am oberen und unteren Bildrand beschnitten wurde (mit entsprechend weniger vom Film). Die „Uncut Kinofassung“ liegt hingegen im Vollbildformat 1.33:1 vor, hat aber – wie oben beschrieben – kein so gutes Bild.Als Extras sind auf beiden Scheiben der Trailer zum Film im Format 1.33:1 sowie eine Artworkgalerie und ein Audiokommentar des Regisseurs enthalten.Insgesamt nach meiner Bewertung 4,5 Sterne für „Deathstalker II“, auch angesichts des wirklich sehr guten Bildes auf der Blu-ray und der auf der DVD vorliegenden „ungeschnittenen“ Fassung mit mehr Filminformationen am oberen und unteren Bildrand.PS: Im Abspann des Films gibt es übrigens nette Outtakes zu sehen.

eines vorweg:Wer einen ernsthaften Fantasy Film sucht, macht bitte einen grossen Bogen um diesen Film.Das hier ist beste Fantasy Trash Unterhaltung vom Trash-Meister Jim Wynorski. Die Darsteller haben sichtbaren Spass am Dreh gehabt.Wenn die beiden Hauptakteure von den Amazonen gefangen genommen werden, sieht man Autos im Hintergrund.Wer Deathstalker 1 gesehen hat, wird diverse Szenen wiedererkennen, die im zweiten Teil einfach nochmal benutzt wurden. In einige Szenen kommen Nebelmaschinen zum Einsatz um die Hintergrundkulisse wie diverse Wohnhäuser ;-) unsichtbar zu machen... man hat hier also keine Kosten und Mühen gescheut - hüstelsoviel zur Sorgfalt des Filmes.Zum Mediabook:Der Directors Cut befindet sich nur auf BluRay, wohingegen die Kinofassung leider nur auf DVD gepresst wurde.Die Kinofassung ist ja 8 Minuten länger als der DC, von daher etwas schade.Da keine deutsche Tonfassung für den DC vorlag, hat man hier anscheinend den Ton von der Kinofassung verwendet und entsprechend angepasst.Somit kann es bei manchen Szenen passieren, dass gesprochen wird, obwohl niemand mehr zu sehen ist.Na ja, seis drum - wer hätte je gedacht dass diese Trash-Perle überhaupt auf BluRay oder MB erscheint?

Gradito ritorno di Deathstolker, vero rappresentante cinematografico di Conan il Cimmero.In questo seguito abbiamo un cast tutto nuovo. Persino l'attore protagonista viene cambiato.Deathstolker si imbatte in una stracciona, che sostiene di essere una principessa. Naturalmente non le crede, ma volente o nolente (ma più nolente che volente) finisce per farsi coinvolgere, e naturalmente si rivelerà essere davvero una principessa.Uno stregone cattivo è riuscito a creare, con la magia, una copia perfetta di questa principessa, che cercherà di controllare per i suoi malvagi fini. L'esistenza dell'originale si rivelerà quindi un fastidio, e cercherà in vari modi di eliminarla. Ma il coinvolgimento (involontario) di Deathstolker rovinerà i suoi piani.Trama decisamente semplice, ma un buon film da vedere. L'atmosfera generale è decisamente più ironica e leggera del primo capitolo. Divertente il segnale stradale che indica la Cimmeria.Purtroppo anche questa (fantastica) edizione è priva di sottotitoli, e il parlato solo inglese e tedesco. Ma la trama è piuttosto semplice e i dialoghi, in inglese, sono facili da seguire.Consigliatissimo per gli amanti del genere "fantasy barbaro".

Alle Seiten sind beidseitig mit Aufnahmen aus dem Film und Infos über Film und Darstellern bedruckt.Persönlich hätte ich mir da noch mehr gewünscht (Making off, Interviews) aber damals hat man garantiert nicht damit gerechnet, dass es eine art Kult wird xD
