Clown shoes
Im not calling them clown shoes because of the ridiculously bright yellow, and yes they probably shine in the dark but these things came in WAY too large. Not sure if the pair i received were just mislabeled at the factory or what. I've worn many pairs of the Superior 4.5s and never had any issue so unless they drastically changed their sizing between the 4.5 and 5, something was off with the pair i received. Im not kidding when i say the ones i received (and returned) had to be 2-3 sizes too large and i normally wear a 11.5 or 12 (depending on the Altra shoe) so now you understand the clown shoes comment

Eh, It's okay
I think I am done with Altra at this point. They have ruined the Lone Peak line, and this Superior is just okay. It is not at all tough enough to last for long. I've worn them very little, but will be competing in a 12 hour adventure race where I will be using them. I will bring an extra pair of shoes - I'm not sure how these will do.

Great hikers, Buy 1/2 size over!
I love the Altra Superiors. I have owned at least a dozen Altras. The Superiors have always run a half size small; even compared to other Altras. They are light and thin, almost like moccasins. I have used other light weight hikers, the Superiors are my favorite. If you are transitioning from more traditional Hikers, you'll want to transition to the thinner soles. They provide stone guard inserts to help you transition but I have never used them. They have great grip. I used to turn my ankles from time to time in sturdier traditional Hikers, even the mid highs. It's the heals and hard soles you can't feel what's under your feet. I haven't turned my ankles in years since I switched to Altras. With the Superiors, you are lower to the ground and can feel what you are walking on. I love the feel of the trail, even the rocks. My feet have adapted. I have hiked thousands of miles in them, from a 25 mile Rim-To-Rim, to 14ers.Oh, and I NEVER get blisters anymore. Now a couple of knocks, the rear foot on the Superior 5 is a kind of pleather. I liked the fully nylon mesh in the older styles. The Superior 2s were my favorite version. I am not a fan of the one sided wrapped tongue. It's not a deal killer and has some advantages but I liked the centered tongue better.Great shoes for a great price, (on sale).Happy Trails

Lace locks are a must
A lot of reviews stating that these fit tight. I thought so myself until using a lace lock which slides the heel back into the shoe allowing for room in front of the toes. The design of the 5s look 10x better than the 6s, so much so that I bought 2 colors.

Snug fit
I normally wear 12s, some things like skates or ski boots 11 or 10.5. Slippers maybe 13. I ordered size 12, but the right shoe is a bit short. Funny that the left shoe seems to fit okay. I'll need to exchange these because the toes on my right foot are scrunched up and pressing against the front.**Update: Painless refund, purchased the 12.5 and they've been great. If you've never worn these (as I never had either), putting on street shoes or non-zero drop shoes afterward almost feels like walking downhill. After a few days, I could feel my low back, hammy & calf muscles were getting a workout. For me and my back, that's great! The only odd thing, and I don't know if other shoe makers are doing this too, is the tongue is fixed to the inside of the inner side. Maybe I have big arches, but my laces at the top are always wide and this makes the tongue on these skew off-center and just looks odd. The tongue has enough material to cover to the other side, so that's not an issue. Just makes the shoe look crooked regardless of the bigger toe box.Have to wait to see how long these last. Replacing 18-year old Nike 'trail' mid-tops that I only wore while biking or in the gym. I had to reglue the sole 4 different times, but the uppers are still in 1 piece. I'd be shocked if these last 5 years.

I love the comfort of these shoes.
What I love about this model is that they are supper comfortable. You can take them on long hikes or runs They are amazing I highly recommend them. They are water resistant and also fast dry material. What I dislike is that the shoelaces are a little to big for this type of shoes.

Great zero drop shoe with grip
I have been running in barefoot style shoes for years and love the natural feeling and increased strength in my foot and legs as a result. I purchased these shoes to use as a zero drop option primarily for winter runs in snowy/ icy conditions.Id say I have a slightly wider than normal foot because my three middle toes are similar in length, and I have strong high arches. I usually wear a size 8.5US or a size 9US (Nike/ Saucony) depending on the brand, however recently I've been buying more shoes in size 9 to allow for a little more space in the toe box. I bought the superior in a size 9 and it fits great. It allows for a good amount of space in the toe box to let my toes spread but not so much that my feet slide around excessively. Despite having a wide toe box the toe box is a little shallow. Initially I was concerned about the toe guard potentially rubbing on my big toe when flexed but I didn't notice anything after a few runs and walking. If you're concerned you can always remove the additional rock guard insole for some more space. The shoe has a relatively low stack height and the foam is more on the firm side in my opinion which allows for good ground contact feel so don't expect a soft ride. There's a slight bit of arch support. With zero drop and the amount of cushion it would be a good shoe for people transitioning or for people who run in more minimalist shoes that want to give their legs a bit of a break. The traction lugs aren't super deep but traction was pretty good in snow and on trails. No real complaints. The upper is not waterproof. There is a mesh on the toe box that is stretchy and breathable. The rest of the shoe is covered in solid material that would resist water. Compared to traditional shoes there's a good amount of flexibility. One thing I have noticed when running in these shoes is that my Achilles gets tight and part way through the run I sometimes stop to give them a break and let them relax. After that the tightness usually goes away. I'm not sure if this is because of the shoe or not properly warming up before the run, however with my barefoot shoes like Merrell vapor glove and some water shoes I bought off Amazon I usually don't get tightness in the Achilles or it goes away after a km or so. I typically run 5 miles a day or 35 miles a week.Overall I'm happy with the shoe and think it's best for experienced minimalist runners who want a zero drop shoe with a little cushion to give their legs a break, or as a transition shoe for someone trying to run in more minimalist footwear. My only complaint with the shoe itself is it would be nice to have a waterproof version.

So far so good
Purchased a size 8.5 men’s, I’m usually an 8 so thought that with a wider toe box I’d be on the safer side. This was not the case, and the fit is borderline as there is not much toe space. Should mention this is my first pair of Altras, so not sure if this a general theme. Aside from that they are comfy and come with a second inner sole which I suppose might favour those who prefer less cushioning. I do own Merrel vapour gloves and and much prefer these for uneven terrain as they provide good support.

Great shoe
Scott all I could ask for in a trail runner. Good design, good construction.Quite breathable and quick to dry. Satisfactory grip on the tread. The heel of the foot is firmly secured in the shoe while the forefoot is free. The cushioning is neither too hard or too soft (both of which can cause discomfort). The shoe is comfortable for running and hiking woodland or alpine trails and city roads, while still preserving some ground-feel. I find standing in the shoes for long periods uncomfortable, though (which may come down to personal physiology).I'm most happy that the flexible toe guard present on the Lone Peak, which always digs into my toes when I climb or crouch, is absent from the Superior 5 on which a firmer, more structured toe guard preserves space for the toes.I use the shoes for hiking, wilderness backpacking, and travel/city walking besides running.
