To Bleed a Crystal Bloom: Crystal Bloom, Book 1

Darn good read!
I am really enjoying this series!! The writer does NOT spoon feed the reader the way so many other authors in this genre do. She lays out little crumbs and hints that build into bigger mysteries. And best of all, she doesn't solve the mysteries too quickly. A lot of books in this genre will have one or two big predictable reveals and a lot of predictable dialogue. I'm on book three. There have been what feels like several reveals and there are more ahead. Lots of interesting twist and turns. And the interaction/dialogue between characters is intelligently laid out without spelling anything out for the reader. There is definitley way more here than the standard romance + heroes journey. The characters are complex and multi dimensional. In the first book, I thought she spent too much time laying the foundation of the main characters. Then, as she began to reveal and unravel some magic in the next couple books, I was like "OHhhhh, I get it! This is so gooooood!!!!) I can't wait for the next books to come out. A big step up from the norm.

Be patient with the story. B
I kept seeing this series recommended all over for dark fantasy lovers. I was super excited to finally start reading what I had believed was a finished series. Spoiler alert, it is not.It is based loosely on a dark twisted Rapunzel retelling. The FMC is a very traumatized young woman that has been heavily sheltered in her home due to her PTSD. This leaves her POV being a little shady and sketchy at times. As the world building starts growing, with her innocence, it can lead to a lot of questions and bits of confusion for the reader on what exactly is going on, what is true vs what is lie.All in all, I hated and loved this book in equal amounts. Please check the TW if you have any issues with darker books. The MC is a walking red flag, and he's not the worst character. ;) I will probably bring a reread of the whole series before I read the next book when it comes out to try and piece together some of my questions

Amazing Start to a New Series!
Wow. This book hooked me from the beginning. While I was reading, I felt like I was listening to a drum beat. Slow at first, but picking up tempo until it felt like my heart was racing just as fast as Orlaith’s must have been at the end.Orlaith is still an enigma to me. I have so many questions surrounding her origins, her necklace, and why Rhordyn seems to know everything about her, but keeps everything a secret.I loved the world building, the characters, and the tension between Rhordyn and Orlaith. She’s been sheltered most of her life, scared to venture out of her safety net. But she sacrifices her comfort to give the people a better chance of survival against the Vruk. The author did an excellent job laying down a bunch of crumbs in the first book. I couldn’t finish the ending fast enough. I have a NEED to find out what happens next. Can’t wait for the hunt to begin.

Love and Hate
I both loved and hated this book. On the one hand it was beautifully written. The author weaves the story together almost like a poem. She describes things with similes and metaphors that make ordinary situations sound artistic. But sometimes the author’s lengthy descriptions got in the way. I found myself annoyed because it felt like the story dragged and was weighed down by the flowery language.I loved and hated the characters. The FMC was so immature. Her actions were frustrating most of the book. She is obsessed with the MMC, who doesn’t have a lot of redeeming qualities. However, I found myself intrigued by their relationship and I kept reading to see how their relationship would progress. This book leaves a lot more questions than answers. After finishing the book, I’m not really sure what’s going on. I’m not sure if I’ll read the next book…

Love it, love it, love it
After reading To Snap a Silver Stem, I’m hooked on the series. Sarah A. Parker uses the vast majority of this first book to build up this world and introduce us to Orlaith. Most of the plot occurs in the last half of the book, which means that if you’re looking for action, you’ll find the story to drag at points. Despite that, I think you should give it a try because the premise is incredibly intriguing and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Our main character Orlaith is almost 21-years-old. She’s lived a sheltered life, some of which is her own making and some is due to others’ choices. She’s only been exposed to a handful of people during her life, and those people are precious to her. This story will show the beauty of friendship and unconditional acceptance, it will give you sexual tension and unrequited love, and it will crack open your heart over and over.“I’m in love with a man who’ll never be mine—who’s unavailable in every way, shape, and form—and I’m certain it’s going to ruin me.”This story asks more questions than it answers, and I cannot wait for the gradual unveiling over the rest of the series.Spice: 🌶️🌶️ (of 5)

Beautiful writing! Such a unique read!
Sarah is an amazing wordsmith. Her prose is, honestly, poetic. This was such a breath of fresh air from other fantasy romances that follow such an annoyingly typical plot line. I love a main character that is undefined and mysterious. The MMC is exactly that. Is he good? Is he bad? Or human like the rest of us? A great delve into human condition within a fantasy setting. Can’t wait to read the next book!

Not recommend
Everyone is so excited about these books but I can’t understand why. Let me first state that the cover isn’t printed very clear. Second, there are loads of moments where the mc constantly switches her behaviour between that of a child and a grown woman. Very irritating to follow.

What a pay off! 😱
Oh my days!Ok, I was 5 chapters in and struggling, I had to re-read the reviewsI'm not afraid to admit up until chapter 8 was hard going for me. The story felt very claustrophobic and a bit dull. But this was by design. However by chapter 9 things began to change. My perseverance paid off!The number of times, I jumped up off the sofa!Burst out laughing or swearing loudly.DO NOT READ IN PUBLIC!There is quite a bit of angst, a decent helping of steam and so many betrayals. 🙄I was supposed to go to bed and have early night. It's now 6 am.What has this author done to me???I'm so glad the next instalment is available

Me likey.
Lots and lots of riddles and mysteries, it was a bit difficult to really get into, but I'm glad I didn't give up. I like Rhordyn but I like it even more that Orlaith recognizes his toxicity. Hoping that this will all be resolved in the next booked, which I will definitely read because I am HOOKED. Uuh, and I am weak for more Kai-content and want to see him happy. Please let him have his own happy ending. At first I was a bit thrown off by the sheer naivety from Orlaith, but it is well explained and justified by the way she is "manhandled" all the time. I live for her journey to get a sense of reality and more character growth! Way to go Orlaith.

If you like heartbreak...
I loved this book so much! I'm a person who will choose angst and heartbreak over a fluffy romance every single time.I love the journey, the ache, the mending, I love all of it.
