Interesting and informed....
I bought this book as to further my interest in understanding the development of Christianity over millenia... It's a scholarly piece of research and I was interested that it made no reference to the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and the place of the feminine... One reference to the origins of the word Spirit as being feminine and that was it... So it's still a patriarchal paradigm.

Comprehensive
Davidson uses gnostic and mystical texts to illuminate Jesus' teachings. He puts aside the "establishment" view of Jesus that has been inserted into the gospels and the New Testament generally. His research is profound and comprehensive and certainly does justice to Jesus' wisdom teaching. A superb book.

A True Gem. Excellent.
John Davidson's, "The Gospel of Jesus" is a treasury of wisdom. It contains valuable pointers for the spiritual journey. This is the 2nd copy that I've purchased of this book. The 1st copy is well worn. Instead of sending the old copy to the bookbinders, I decided to enjoy the tattered copy alongside this new purchase, to which I don't plan to add my markups, as with the first. There are small segments within this book in which I part company with the author. For example, taking on a spirtual teacher or guru on the spiritual path is not helpful, in my experience. Teachings from spiritual writers or the companionship of worthy elders may be helpful. Learning to trust your inner teacher, through silence, solitude, stillness is key. There is only one true Teacher. The Eternal Voice of that Teacher lives within us all. Our work is to listen, discern, and honor the inner voice of the one true Teacher. This book remains a rare gem in my library. It's a helpful companion to more ancient texts (e.g. The Tao Te Ching, th Bible, the Bhagavad Gita. etc.). Thank you JD. Well done.

Excellent Book
The information placed within this book was well researched and is presented in a comprehensive manner that is easily understood, provocative, and quite illuminating. This masterpiece is a must for all individuals who desire to go beyond the mundane teachings of today's "Churchianity" - and explore the deeper mystical and spiritual aspects of the early Christian faith. I highly recommend this book.Thank you, Professor Davidson, for such a wealth of knowledge and the courage to present it. "May he who has ears to hear receive what the Spirit of God has to say to the churches..."
