Julia RothmanLadies Drawing Night: Make Art, Get Inspired, Join the Party

I'm not Julia Rothman and I don't live in a cool Brooklyn loft and I'm not friends with Mary Kate ...
I read the whole book in a day and was incredibly inspired! The trio set up 10 different themed Ladies Drawing Nights to inspire you to start your own. Of course, I'm not Julia Rothman and I don't live in a cool Brooklyn loft and I'm not friends with Mary Kate McDevitt but there's a definite sense that this sort of activity is a great way to infuse creativity into your life, especially for folks who may be creative professionals but don't get a lot of opportunity to make things with their hands anymore.I particularly liked that they included images of the ladies' finished pieces and a list of the tools that they used as well as the overall projects. The 3D paperboard city project was a particularly clever idea too. The last two ladies nights were the least inspired: one was going out to a bar and the other was a kids night. While they are great ideas they were not as engaging as the projects earlier in the book.

Guidebook for Creating Community Around Art
Ladies Drawing Night will forever be filed in my brain under a category I call "New York Fantasy Life". Similar to how I watch Meg Ryan's You've Got Mail and instantly start daydreaming of owning a children's bookstore in NYC, I can open up this book and fall into an artistic fantasy life. It's escapism at its best. For that alone it would've been worth the purchase, but Ladies Drawing Night does not stop there! I would love to get a group together and do every single theme in the book - especially Pattern Play and Cardboard City! The idea of a Ladies Drawing Night was originally really intimidating for me, but after reading through the ideas and commentary it seems doable and completely enjoyable.

Save Your Money-It’s not what You Think!
Awful book - perfect example of being misled by a book cover. A boring bunch of photos of gals drawing together, yawn. No format, no project ideas, just a simple narrative on what these women are doing. Wish I never bought this- going straight to goodwill.

An excellent inspiration
Not only a fun inspiration for dedicating your time towards creativity, this book also shines a light on the benefits of working amongst peers. As with all of Julia Rothman's projects, it's a thorough and pleasurable world to get lost inside. The casual but in-depth coverage of other women artists and their wide range of media was refreshing. I originally checked this book out from my local library and loved it so much that I bought it for friends as gifts. They loved it too.

Great book!
Ideas that Julia and her friends are sharing here are very inspiring and helpful if you want to run your own creative meetings with friends and like-minded people. She describes in details what materials you may use, what you may need for inspiration and she shares some pitfalls that you may have while running such nights.I have just moved to the city and I am looking for the ways to connect with other creatives here. I am planning to organize something similar very soon! :)

So much inspiration!
I LOVE this book. It is full of inspiring artists and great ideas. My son and I used one of the ideas to made patterns that we had custom printed onto notebooks. I love that the ideas/concepts presented in this book are super accessible. There are a lot more that I want to try. It has inspired me to get some friends together in a Facebook room to paint during the pandemic. But a lot of the ideas would also work if you are doing the projects by yourself.

Brilliant! Absolutely love this idea. Bought it as a present for my Mum but looking through it, I was so inspired, I immediately picked up a paintbrush and started planning my First Ladies Drawing Night!
