Beautiful book by a fascinating man
Lovely reproduction of natural historian Joseph Banks catalogue of flora and fauna, while travelling with Captain James Cook onboard Endeavour (1768). Every page contains detailed information of the plants he encountered and a full page colour reproduction of Banks original drawings. There is also a section on how the original plates were found, saved and used to create these prints. Lovely gift for anyone interested in botanical illustrations, historical travel or the origins of plant species.

What a book!
What a book! The illustrations are magnificent and incredibly accurate considering the circumstances that they were drawn in. The written information also makes for very interesting reading since so much has changed over the years.I will treasure this and it was have pride of place in my botanical books.

Thrill to hold
So pleased - it's a beautiful book for anyone - but I am even more thrilled as my Nan remembered Sydney Parkinson as a family ancestor and spoke of his work...... so nice to see an oral family-kept history come into fruition through the hands of the diligent record keepers and people who notice and make material. This is so beautifully put together. Will be a thrill for anyone to behold, the story unfolds within in time with the findings.... which gives a lovely dimension to it too. Thank you! I hope to see more of SP's hand, (this book is a focus on plants) of the people & animals he drew too... & the "edge" with his map drawing... what a ship of young men! This book brings the story to life.....!...

Lovely book
Beautiful artwork. And just the book if you are interested in Sir Joseph Banks. Nice quality printing on thick paper. Binding and cover is to a high standard. It was more expensive in the shops and so I really appreciate the price I paid for such an excellent book about the subject
