The XX Brain

Disappointing, nothing for postmenopausal women
I watched an online interview of Dr Mosconi and bought this book with high hopes, and even a second copy for a friend. However, for women past the menopause the author offers only platitudes about getting enough sleep and eating plenty of vegetables. The book was therefore of limited interest or usefulness precisely to those women who are approaching an age where dementia is of concern. If nothing can be done to improve brain health at that late stage, fair dues, but the title should have made it clear that no woman past the menopause need read the book.

Definitely worth reading
I nearly didn't get this book after reading a poor review about not being relevant after menopause but I disagree. This is a brilliant book, clear, informative and very readable. It gives the background to the science but in an easily digested way and is full of tips for protecting our brain and body for healthy ageing. I think it is relevant to women of all ages and the more who read it the better as it will be hugely helpful to live healthily.

The book that EVERY woman needs to read
Every woman needs to read this book preferably before her late thirties. My mother has early onset Alzheimer’s so I bought it as I’m worried about my future health. This book is so much more than just about Dementia, in fact I think the title is wrong. It should be called ‘The book that every woman needs to read’.

Disappointing
Some good information on brain health and menopause. However, very disappointed especially when reading it as a nutritional science student. Some absurd food claim like cucumber contains any significant amount of omega-3s. Cucumber is good for you and counts towards your 5 a day, but it is not a source of fat please! Hopefully doctors can talk things in their areas of expertise. Also, not sure if it is because of the kindle version, I cannot see any references attached.

Every pre-menopausal woman needs this book!
Ignore the title on it being just about dementia, it is a really good and practical guide to all female health pre-and post menopause - which really hasn’t been focused on by conventional medicine historically. Full of really key information, practical guides and tables you can fill-in to assess your health and all factors pertaining to it. Packed with Information on what you can do to improve your life chances and reduce your risk of disease. Heard this lady on the Dr Chatterjer podcast and she was so compelling I had to get her book. Can’t recommend this enough.
