A Deep and Important Read
This book will open your mind to what's really important in life, but it requires an open mind with an ability to really discover its lessons. It is one I will read many times and find something new every time.

As always self revealing
Whenever I read K, although the ideas are the same there is always a newness. I especially loved the emphasis on self Knowledge which I believe is particularly relatable to the various teachings of formal religions.

A book on life
Good introspective book. But some parts of it are depressing. But it is talking about life.

Nothing much
The author writes about very important topics that should be more discussed and that we sometimes need to remember ourselves. But he doesn't go deep into any of them as it looks like, he only talks about it. I think this is because the chapters are already short, but it happened to be subdivided, which made it even shorter, so he only talks a little about each one, but it's nothing special.

So it is simple:if we change, each one of us, we change the world. If even one of us changes, it has a ripple effect.Goodness is contagious.«I.1.1UNDERSTANDING the Mind»It seems to me that without understanding the way our minds work, one cannot understand andresolve the very complex problems of living. This understanding cannot come through bookknowledge. The mind is, in itself, quite a complex problem. In the very process of understandingone's own mind, the crisis which each one of us faces in life can perhaps be understood and gone beyond.«I.1.8TRANSFORM Yourself and You Transform the World»The transformation of the world is brought about by the transformation of oneself, because the self is the product and a part of the total process of human existence. To transform oneself, selfknowledge is essential; without knowing what you are, there is no basis for right thought, and without knowing yourself, there cannot be transformation.«II.4.8HOW Then Do I Live My Daily Life?»May I ask just one question?« put in one of the others»In what manner should one live one's daily life?«As though one were living for that single day, for that single hour.»How?«If you had only one hour to live, what would you do?»I really don't know,« he replied anxiously.Would you not arrange what is necessary outwardly, your affairs, your will, and so on?Would you not call your family and friends together and ask their forgiveness for the harm that you might have done to them, and forgive them for whatever harm they might have done to you?Would you not die completely to the things of the mind, to desires and to the world? And if it can be done for an hour, then it can also be done for the days and years that may remain.»Is such a thing really possible, sir?«Try it and you will find out.*III.3.1DON'T you want to find outif it is possible to live in this world richly, fully, happily, creatively, without the destructive drive of ambition, without competition?Don't you want to know how to live so that your life will not destroy another or cast a shadow across his path? You see, we think this is a utopian dream which can never be brought about in fact; but I am nottalking about utopia; that would be nonsense. Can you and I, who are simple, ordinary people, live creatively in this world without the drive of ambition which shows itself in various ways as the desire for power, position? You will find the right answer when you love what you are doing. If you are an engineer merely because you must earn a livelihood, or because your father or society expects it of you, that is another form of compulsion; and compulsion in any form creates a contradiction, conflict.Whereas if you really love to be an engineer, or a scientist, or if you can plant a tree, or paint a picture, or write a poem, not to gain recognition but just because you love to do it, then you will find that you never compete with another.I think this is the real key:to love what you do.«III.3.10THE True Work of Man Is to Discover Truth»So, what is the true work of man?Surely, the true work of man is to discover truth, God; it is to loveand not to be caught in his own self-enclosing activities. In the very discovery of what is true there is love, and that lovein man's relationship with man will create a different civilization, a new world.«IV.2.3LOVE Comes in Understanding Relationship»Love is something that cannot be cultivated; love is not a thing to be bought by the mind. If you say,»I am going to practice being compassionate,« then compassion is a thing of the mind, and therefore not love.Love comes into being darkly, unknowingly, fully, when we understand this whole process of relationship. Then the mind is quiet; it does not fill the heart with things of themind, and therefore that which is love can come into being.«*More Insights* TALKS by Krishnamurti in Europe, 1964*German Edition: 5* In Communion with Life; K.»AND to understand something you must not kick it, you must not run away from it.You must have tremendous love, real affection for that which you would understand. If you would understand a child, you cannot compel or force him, or compare him with his elder brother. You must look at him, watch him with great care, with tenderness, with affection, with everything that you have.Similarly, we must understand this petty thing we call our life, with all its jealousy, conflict, misery. travail, sorrow.Out of that understanding comes a certain quality of peace which you cannot grope after.*YOU know, there is a lovely story about a disciple going to the Master. The Master is sitting in a beautiful, quiet, well-watered garden, and the disciple comes and sits near him...So, sitting a little to one side, he crosses his legs and closes his eyes. Then the master asks,"My friend, what are you doing?"Opening his eyes the disciple says,"Master, I am trying to reach the consciousness of the Buddha" - and closes his eyes again.Presently the Master picks up two stones and begins to rub them together, making a lot of noise;so the disciple comes down from his great height and says,"Master, what are you doing?"The Master replies, "I am rubbing together these two stonesso as to make one of them into a mirror."And the disciple says, "But Master, surely you will never do it,even if you rub them together for a million years."Then the Master smiles and replies,"Similarly, my friend, you can sit like that for a million yearsand you will never come to what you are trying to reach."And that is what we are all doing. We are all taking postures; we are all wanting something, groping after something which demands effort, struggle, discipline. But I am afraid none of these things will open the door. What will open the door is to understand without effort, just to look, to observe with affection, with love. But you cannot have love if you are not humble;and humility is possible only when you do not want a thing, either from the gods or from any human being.«*WITH so many books and videos* The Book of Life; Kperhaps suitable as a supplement.»WHY do you want to be students of booksinstead of students of life?«»The story of mankind is in you,…You are that book.«*22.10.OUR RESPONSIBILITY»To transform the world, we must begin with ourselves;and what is important in beginning with ourselvesis the intention. The intention must be to understand ourselvesand not to leave it to others to transform themselvesor to bring about a modified change through revolution, either of the left or of the right. It is important to understand that thisis our responsibility, yours and mine;because, however small may be the world we live in,if we can transform ourselves, bring about a radicallydifferent point of view in our daily existence, then perhaps we shall affect the world at large, the extended relationship with others.«* A Wholly Different Way of Living, K.»MAN has collected such enormous information, knowledge, and has that knowledge changed him into goodness?... into a culture that will make himflower in this beauty of goodness.«* The Flame of Attention; K»LIFE has a most extraordinary meaning with its great beauty.…At the end the question:What have we done with our lives?”*INSIGHTS are only part of the whole...Maybe you read the whole book, more books ...And maybe we'll take a look at our real lives.* Meeting Life, K.»SO sirs, and ladies, you hear all this, perhaps if you are going, following, travelling with the speakeryou hear this at every talk, put in different words, different context, different sentences. But to bring about a completeunderstanding in oneself, that's far more importantthan anything else in lifebecause we are destroying the world, ourselves,we have no love, no care - you follow? - all that.So the speakerhas no message. The message is YOU.I am not... the speaker is not –this is not a matter of cleverness –just pointing out this.«M ;-)

Classic K. Clear as ever
Read a lot of books by K., this one is a basic eyeopener for us all.He explains why the state of mind can not solve your problems, so go beyond the mind, explore the you in you.Read it over and over till it sinks in what he means, do not just read it, be it, live what he says.A masterpiece.Have a great journey, know yourself before everything else, this book certainly helps in that exploration.
