Q: I have a very open floor plan, so I wouldn't be using it in a small, designated room - how many square feet is this rated for?

Tough question to answer. It will clean a gymnasium if you have enough time. The bigger the space, the longer it will take. In an open area, especially with a central HVAC system, the smoke WILL drift and be drawn into ductwork and be redistributed to other parts of the home. No machine will stop that from happening. As you can tell, smoke removal can be complicated. None of these issues have anything to do with our machine. The machine has the right type of filters to deal with smoke. The key and challenge is usually airflow. No machine will put a bubble around the smokers and smoke. That said, at 8 air filtrations per hour, this machine would cover about 350 square feet effectively. Again, it can do bigger spaces, but it would be slower due to the increased amount of air it has to clean.

Q: Is this unit safe to use when the room is occupied?

Yes it is a heppa filter system it filters room air thru it does not release ions into the room

Q: We have a 800 sq ft lounge with seating for 25. Sometimes we have the space full. Would this be good for our space?

Definitely not. This is a unit designed for homes and only a couple smokers at a time. An 800 square foot space requires a commercial grade system. Depending on your ceiling height, we have several units available. Check out our store and look at the various commercial machines. Make sure you test it during the trial period.

I used this for a small, finished basement, cigar man cave. One cigar smoker, about 5 cigars, 5 days a week. The 1 year filter lasted about 6 months and does not pull the smoke smell out enough to justify for the price.
