Behrens Galvanized Steel Pan, 1-Gallon

Poor Quality
After doing significant research about galvanized metal for water use, I bought this pan for the first time in April 2018 to use as a water pan for outdoor animals and birds. It was great! Excellent quality, heavy metal (not the AC/DC kind, lol) smooth lines, did not grow green algae in summer except very occasionally. Was very pleased with the purchase. Fast forward to the middle of September 2020. I bought another pan for a new house for the same purposes. Upon opening, I immediately observed that the design and logo of the pan is different than the first one, and the metal felt somehow different--couldn't put my finger on it. It didn't seem to have the same heft or metal texture as the first pan. So I rinsed out the pan before using, and saw that the pan started to give off a cloudy substance. It literally looked like I'd poured milk into the pan. As I continued to wash out the pan, the amount of cloudiness seemed to dissipate, so I put it out for the birds. The next morning I went to change the water, and I saw that there were fuzzy, furry bits of what I can only call "organic matter" clinging all over the pan, and floating in the water. It almost looked like Wonder Bread crumbs. As I washed out the pan, the same milkiness appeared in the water as previously. Is this pan even steel? Is it even galvanized? It's definitely metal, and it's not aluminum. But it is not the same as my purchase in April of 2018. Because I had loved the first purchase so much, I didn't want to give up. So I again put the pan out for the animals. The next day--same thing: furry/fuzzy bits all over the pan. This has continued for the past two weeks, and after about day 4, the pan began to show an odd pattern of "visible wear"--almost as if it is flaking, although it's not, but there are what I can only refer to as "worn bits" all over the pan. Very disappointed. If Behren's doesn't see this complaint (sometimes manufacturers actually pay attention to reviews) then I'm going to return the pan to Amazon. And start the search again for a quality galvanized pan. (P.S., photo on left shows milky water, pic on right shows the "visible wear" that began after just 4 days.)

No better than another I tried
For some reason the Behrens 3-gallon pan, which was what I shopped for, are very hard to find. I settled for this smaller pan as an alternative. Meanwhile, I bought a $3.19 pan of the same size at Walmart. It's meant to be a pet bowl. The Behrens pan bottome actually seems a little less sturdy than the dog pan. For my purpose, which is containing charcoal and a Dutch oven, the cheaper one will do fine. The Behrens pan will work too, but for the money I think I will stick with the one that saves me money. Still wish I could find the larger Behrens, or something similar.

Durable, long lasting plumbers pan
I bought this pan to replace the plastic oil pans I use at work. I’m a plumber, and have always used the plastic oil pans, but they constantly snap under pressure or in the cold weather. Every few months I would buy 10 of those pans, and they all end up in the garbage. This pan I’ve been using for a month or more, and it stands up to any beating I give it. It’s also slightly smaller than those plastic pans, meaning it fits under sinks and toilet stops better.

Great food bowls for our 175 pound English Bull Mastiff.
Our poor Bubba is very sensitive of his size, carefully navigating corridors and doors. He was not enamored with the XXL stainless food bowl that my 100 pound Labrador used. This wide-shallow bowl is perfect for the ginormous craniums of Bubba's size.

Sturdy, well made
I am using this for a watering pan for birds and other neighborhood wildlife. It arrived in perfect condition. It's sturdy, seems to be well-made, and holds a little less than a gallon of water. I would buy this again, and would recommend it to others. :)
