perfect for steaming vegetables
I debated whether to buy this bowl because several reviews complained that the lid did not fit tight. But after thinking about it, I realized it is likely designed that way to allow pressure to escape. Otherwise it could build up to the point of blowing the lid off. This is the same reason you have to lift a corner or poke holes in various types of frozen dinners, etc. People who want to cook with a sealed lid, should try using a pressure cooker instead of a glass bowl to cook in. Pressure cookers are designed so the lid is locked on, but even pressure cookers have to have a relief valve so that the pressure does not get too high. Now I want to say how much I love the bowl I finally bought! Part of the reason I do not eat enough vegies is I hate to cook them. But this bowl changed everything! It is the world's easiest way to steam vegies and none of the nutrients are lost because of draining the juice. There is very little juice because you don't put water on the vegies. I just cooked two florets of broccoli in my new bowl--just broke up the broccoli into pieces, put it in the bowl without any water, sprinkled a little salt on it, put the lid on and cooked it in the microwave (1100 watt) for 5 minutes, and it was perfect. I have to say that is the easiest steamed broccoli I have ever cooked, and I have been cooking for many years.

Something constant over the years
I love my Pyrex and use it all the time. For over 40 years I had been using a 2-quart casserole that my mother had used before me. No kidding. Recently the lid ended up with a large chip (found the broken piece on the shelf), so I reluctantly purchased a new dish/lid when Amazon ran it on sale for around $11 with the super saver shipping (on purchases over $25) feature. Imagine my surprise when I placed the new lid on the bottom piece of my old Pyrex casserole dish, and it fit! So, the old bottom is still useable, and I get to keep the nostalgia that accompanies it. I particularly appreciate that there was a plastic protector between the new lid and base that I'm keeping to help prevent future chips when they are stored.December 20, 2012 update: In using this casserole, I noticed that the lid really does not properly fit the bottom; there are slight gaps. So, I put the lid on the 40-year-old casserole bottom, and, amazingingly, the new lid fits that piece better. As a result, if you purchase this, immediately check to see that the top fits correctly to the bottom.April 17, 2013 update: In using this dish at 450 degrees for 20 minutes to sear a roast, then reducing temperature to 250 degrees, the dish stained permanently from the meat fat. I did this on two occasions just to verify that it was this action that caused the staining. This is not my mother's Pyrex because I have older pieces where this has never occurred. For this reason I have taken off a star from the rating.

Round Lid, Off-Round Bowl UPDATE: 7/22/2016
This dish is made off-round, and the lid isn't. The bowl is wider at the handles, leaving about an 1/4" gap for steam to escape. There is no way for this lid to seal in moisture/flavor without using something like Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil or Saran Premium Plastic Wrap .This serving/baking dish has a very wide base which allows the food to cool faster, than if I had used my 40yo Corningware-Pyrex bowls . I needed a 2qt bowl for use in the microwave, and for serving Kraft Spaghetti Dinner Classics in, and this fit the bill.Great shape for mixing batters either by hand or with my Kitchenaid Hand-Held Mixer (ASSEMBLED IN GREENVILE OHIO USA) . I can also use this to proof a bread dough and then use it to bake the loaf in a preheated oven. Instructions state not to add this to a cold oven.As expected, the small handles can become quite warm. Wish they were more than a finger tip size.I wish the lid had a deeper rim, so it sat better on this off-round dish, it fits very loosely and can slide off fairly easily. I didn't even notice that the bowl was made off-round until I saw the gap while examining the handles. This is 'not' stovetop or broiler safe. It's to be used only in non-commercial conventional or microwave ovens. No where does Pyrexware state on its website what temperature this can withstand. They also do not state it is freezer-safe, but with such a loose fitting lid, I wouldn't feel comfortable using in there. It works for what I use it for, but I am unhappy that the bowl is off-round and the lid isn't.UPDATE 7/22/2016: I just bought a NuWave 20632 Pro Plus Oven with Stainless Steel Extender Ring and wasn't sure if I should use this in it or not, since it states "preheated oven" in the instructions. I went ahead and used this on the 1" rack to bake beans in, (with the lid on) and it worked out fine.

Reheating leftovers is now a dream. Thanks, Pyrex!
I don't know why it took me 30 years to purchase glass Pyrex bowls with glass covers for the microwave. My whole life, I have felt existential anxiety about the microwave. As a kid our family used to throw food in plastic Tupperware in there, and - let's be honest - there were definitely times it deformed and out-gassed. Ew. I recently stopped taking huge risks with the microwave. I only put glass in there and that frequently left me with splatters from my lidless endeavors or paper towel all over my food.About a month ago, I stopped myself, and said, "Self, what are you doing? This is insane. There HAVE to be glass bowls with glass lids on the internet." Lo and behold - Pyrex.I got four of these and they have been life changing. I put food in the bowl, put on the lid and the food heats without splattering or anything crazy happening. I know. This sounds so simple and obvious, but you would be amazed at all of the not this I was doing previously.Reheating leftovers is now a dream. Thanks, Pyrex!

Looking for this for a long time! Worth the Wait!
I purchased this for my wife who was looking for this item for a very long time. Item was exactly what she was looking for. New Pyrex items are hard to find. This was reasonably priced. The seller is excellent. The item came sooner than expected. It was very securely packaged. I would buy from this seller again and highly recommend them.

As advertised but isn't Borosilicate, just Soda-Lime glass. Useful for microwave cooking pot.
Works for me as a pot for microwave cooking so far. Not the real Borosilicate though unfortunately as Pyrex in North America now uses the cheaper Soda-Lime glass instead. Can cook Penne and Fusilli pastas in good portion sizes for a single bowl-full, about 1 & 1/2 cup dry of the sizes I use. Have cooked thick stand-your-spoon-in wild rice, lentil, split pea and sesame seed soup with Miso, Olive Oil and spice blend from scratch in it though that took a long time. It also takes a long time on the stove though cause it needs to simmer to really properly make the lake grown wild rice curl and the split peas get soft enough to eat. Also good for cooking regular rice and probably many other things but too short for spaghetti.Haven't used this a ton but it has been useful, I'm glad to have it and will likely last till I break it by violent force or dropping too many times.Never used this in the oven though I assume it will work for anyone who has the use for that. Beware extreme temperature changes can break it!
