Excellent movie.
I just pulled this out of my WWII DVD collection for the first time in several years and was surprised again at just how good it really is. Allan Ladd is great in this Noir style WWII espionage film that is well directed and fast paced.

Kino Lorber strikes again!
Elaine tells Philippe, "Never come back for me again. Do you understand? Never come back."O.S.S (1946). is one of Alan Ladd's better films, and the KL blu ray is an improvement over Universal's dvd by adding English subtitles and having somewhat clearer image and sound. In my video system, I get the best results when the TV set points are in “standard” mode. The optional commentary details the origins and development of US secret intelligence, with a discussion on practically every member in the cast and production crew. For the record, Alan Ladd plays USNR Lt. (JG) Philip Masson, who is recruited by O.S.S. He calls himself Martin while training and he is Philippe Martine (pronounced leap and teen) when in France. The name John Martin and associated badge are forgery ("You're lying. We called Senator Finninig.") and used only once in a bungled deception attempt during his training. A delightful presence in the film is stage/film/TV actor Harold Vermilyea. He almost runs away with the show as Amadeus Brink, the slick Gestapo opportunist and traitor. Other memorable sequences include the meeting in a London hotel room during a blitz, an explosion in the face of a German soldier, Bernay's sacrifice (Richard Benedict, as Bernardi ln France) and Ladd's frantic dilemma near the end, with him breaking down in tears. I am delighted with this blu ray and look forward to many more "Alan Ladd Forties" on Kino Lorberor.

Great film
The film was great Alan Ladd was excellent the film shows how the new USA spy network the O.S.S was threw the rough train program and some dry test on their on people it also shows what they went threw when they where sent in enemy held country and making risky deals with their enemy counter parts and how one mistake can get people killed. But of all when Alan Ladd when passing on information that can save many allied lives he's been told that the enemy has taken his female agent and has to make A decision. The movie is full of action double crosses violence and A little romance the cast did A wonderful job they showed what they real agents might of gone threw.

A Ladd vehicle
Entertaining. With the usual, 'a woman has no place on this mission' lines.A much superior movie, along this vein, is "13 Rue Madeline" staring James Cagney.

Espionage classic
This is one of the premier OSS movies produced shortly after the war ended. The other is 13 Rue Madeleine. Both are classics. Both feature major stars. O.S.S. , however. was hard to find heretofore. This is a decent transfer with a slightly feminist commentary that makes a good case for Geraldine Fitzgerald being the real hero of the movie.

A pretty good 1940's Espionage thriller!
!!Not a great movie but if you like old 1940's movies and can do without the excessive graphic realism of today's films, you may enjoy O.S.S. I do not wish to spoil the movie so I will not give details but this is not a typical everybody lives happily ever after 40's film. I would not call it a great movie at all but if you like espionage movies and films from this time period you may want to give this one a look.

One of Ladd's Best Films
O.S.S. has long been one of my favorite Alan Ladd films. As a spy in WWII, he's handsome, strong, intelligent, competent, patriotic, and romantic---what more can you ask? The cast is excellent, and the plot is complex and suspenseful.I was a bit nervous about buying a DVD imported from Brazil. Though the cover art and the DVD's opening screen are written in Portuguese, all that's needed is one click on the language menu to select English instead of Portuguese, and the movie plays exactly as it was filmed, in English.
