I think it will fit. I suggest going to the Briggs and Stratton website and look at the motor cross reference. You may need to use the existing muffle off you older unit on the new.

The 17.5 HP Briggs & Stratton uses both electric starter and a manual pull. I broke the manual pull on mine, so now I only use the electric start. It can be VERY difficult to start manually when the engine is cold.
