Good read
Very likeable, frighteningly realistic and current in outlook. A very well written and suspenseful novel, and one that does make you want to read the follow-up.

Realistic scenario played out in the Pacific Rim
Current events used to set up a one-upmanship political nail biter. Who will blink first? Who has the means to make it happen.

Well written book
This book was well written and had a good plot. It was slow getting started but once the action picked up it was hard to put down.

Plausible action and politically topical.
A joy ride of action without drowning the reader with too many technical facts. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

outstanding depictions of what could happen
John O’Brien does a magnificent job of showing the political and military side of potential events that could occur leading up to conflict with Chinese forces.

Combat precision with integrity of purpose.
Precise descriptors, effective geographic and geopolitical placement of characters and plot line. It fosters intellectual adhesion to actual historic datapoints.

Engaging
This is a bit of a slow burn in that it takes a little while to get going but it becomes faster paced as the book goes on.The scenarios are realistic in terms of what the options are for US and PLA force squaring off in the South China Sea. At this stage there is no huge amount of character development other than the leader of the CCP and US President. That’s not a criticism but an observation. As one other reviewer noted, the only criticism I have is that it underplays the potential of the Chinese whilst the Americans get credited with superior weapon systems and good luck.I will be reading the second novel

WORTH READING
Rather disappointingly slow for three quarters of the book, but it was very well written, laying the groundwork for the next book I guess. The action when it arrived was very good.I am off for the next in line.Worth getting embroiled in what is a very present day situation

GREAT TENSION!
I love military/warfare novels along the lines of Tom Clancy and this one fits the bill to a tee. A man made virus is unleashed on the world and China tries to take over control of the China Seas causing immense tension between them and the US. Jockeying for power may just end up in a shooting war between these two world powers. Looking forward to more books to see what happens.

realistic fiction
John O’Brien was right, it’s not all fast action stuff, but the deliberations and considerations all came across naturally. And when the action started it was tense and easy to follow.
