Great unit
We drink a lot of wine hic! Not sure of the negative reviews of this product, we use ours a lot and it's never given any sign of poor quality or difficulty in use.I get the feeling people don't read instructions when they post images of the screw cover being off, its meant to come off, that's why they supply a spare screw.Secondly, broken ones, you’re using it wrong. Ours have seen hundreds of bottles and are still fine.

Fragile device laden with emotional disappointment
What can I say. This is a bottle opener. One would expect and hope for the price this is robust and well, opens bottles of wine without falling to bits. Oh contrare! Weaker than a kitten, flimsy as a set of paper massage knickers. I was half an opened bottle of red down, ready for more, the binge drinking boat salacious in its tempting allure. I was loaded, cocked for red. As I tottered to the kitchen, more excited than Trump attending a Stormy Daniels dance act, I could taste the irresponsibility.Grabbing the aforementioned bottle opener I went at the new bottle like a fat dog on a plate of late night chips.Whoooooaaaa there! Second time out of the traps for this plastic little fella and it snapped like g-strings at a Neil Diamond concert. It’s no more, leaving me sad, deflated, on the Bristol Crème. Utter rubbish. Don’t buy it.

Style over Substance
As with all Joseph & Joseph products you can not fault the design and looks. At the end of the day though it is a corkscrew and in that capacity it has been for me an abject failure. The screw goes down into the cork and then when lifting up, it lifts smoothly….leaving the cork behind; doesn’t budge.I swapped out the screw using the spare and the same result and I had to swap to a standard corkscrew.I’m the interests of providing an optimum number of tests I managed a dozen bottles over the weekend with no success at all. All I ended up with was a hangover and a kitchen ornament (as I threw the box away and couldn’t return). Some of the reviews praise this, so maybe I was unlucky. My recommendation is, keep the box and try when you receive.Update: Sept 2024I bent the screw element and it is now working. Really like the style but frustrated that it took months and another (different) purchase. Upgraded to 4 stars with 1 off for not working out of the box.

Best corkscrew I’ve ever had.
How I wish I had bought this years ago. Opening a bottle of wine is so much easier now, no more fiddling about trying to get the wrapper off. It’s lightweight and does the trick, easy peasy. No more cutting my fingers when other corkscrews slid across the wrapper. Happy days.

Very well designed & good weight.
Bought it during Black Friday, so the price was nearly half price!!Well made, weighty which is nice and very compact compared to my other lever cork screw! Needs a bit of practice to use the foil cutter but TBH after 2 or 3 goes and you get the technique, it’s brilliant.I much prefer it to the ‘Screw Pull’ clamp style version as that’s a little unwieldy!Great bit of kit.Update - 14.01.21A few months on and as you may notice, in other reviews, mine also fell apart!! It looked more dramatic than it actually was (it looked like it had snapped in half!!) but actually it has two lugs for the hinge part. These are glued in and where one had broken it’s adhesion and the lug had fallen out (luckily in the draw) the one remaining lug couldn’t hold the cork screw together. After realising the lug was missing I found it in the draw where the cork screw is kept, I glued it back in and has been fine since. I think, maybe, it has been thrown in the draw a little hard which broke the glue adhesion....... but I’ll never know as it’s treated a little better now!

Works well
Ordered from Amazon but informed the package was probably lost so got a refund. Bought one locally and glad I didn't change my mind to get something different. This replaced a rabbit corkscrew, which I've had two of. Both of these failed in the same way with one of the "ear" handles snapping from the pivot point. The Joseph Joseph one is much easier to use. I always thought the bottle was going to slip with the rabbit but how this one is held feels much more secure as you hold around the neck of the bottle. The collapsible design is much more compact and fits nicely in the kitchen drawer.

A Terrible Piece of Plastic Tat. AVOID!
Usually Joseph Joseph products are good value for money however this product falls short. The inbuilt foil cutter is fiddly and difficult to place correctly. Sometimes it takes several attempts at removing the cork as the corkscrew just unscrews out of the cork instead of pulling it out. To correctly remove a cork takes a firm grip and strength that maybe some people won't have because you have to firmly grip the device over the top of the bottle. Also after a few days a plastic cap on the lever hinge fell out. Easy to push back in but shoddy design. I couldn't recommend this item at all.Update! Do not buy this product!!! I bought this corkscrew in June, it's now 31st August and it has fell apart, total rubbish. Joseph Joseph ought to be ashamed of themselves for manufacturing such a shoddy product. Avoid this piece of plastic tat!

The built quality is not good as this brand should be
The design is good and easy to open a bottle, but the build is not robust as this brand should be.

Learning curve ahead
This compact tool is well made and substantial in weight. The action is smooth and effective 97% of the time. The 3% rate is due to operator error which requires more effort to complete the job. The cutter blade takes some time to understand how to use it correctly but it works fine. The corkscrew action is easier to understand but learning how to use it properly is the thing. The tool must be positioned correctly on the bottle neck before closing it and applying the proper amount of hand gripping pressure. Doing this correctly centers the corkscrew over the cork before applying the uncorking lever. When I don’t do that correctly I have to repeat and the extra lever (corkscrew) attempts lead to a damaged cork. I think I’m passed the initial learning phase now but my guests are not so I always have keep an eye on them.
