Recurring Dream: The Very Best Of Crowded House

Smells Amazing, but need to reapply.
I bought a smaller size at the store and used it in place of my favorite perfume. It is pretty sweet and youthful, but it makes my husband bury his nose into my hair. The fragrance fades after about half an hour so I tecommend the big bottle for home and smaller for purse.I’m allergic to almost all fragrance but this does not irritate my nose or give me a headache. One star off for the short-linger of the scent. Price is right and I support the mission of the brand.

Top Raves for Recurring Dream
Everyone remembers Crowded House from the 80's and 90's for their catchy and thoughtful songs "Don't Dream it's Over", "Something so Strong", "Fall at Your Feet", and "Whispers and Moans". Even if those are the only songs you've ever heard from Crowded House, realize that those songs are only a small sample of the treasure house that is contained on Recurring Dream. After listening to Recurring Dream about 20 times in the past week, those hit singles I listed above aren't even the best Crowded House has to offer. Comprised of songs from their four albums, Recurring Dream has NO off songs. Every one is a winner: beautiful, thoughtful, catchy, and sometimes funny lyrics that will make you see this completely underrated group in a new light. The songs and sound of the band are totally unique, in fact, you'll be hard pressed to squeeze Crowded House into a category. You'll wonder why Crowded House wasn't played as often as other bygone bands who have not stood the test of time. And truly, the music is timeless. The members of Crowded House are true musicians who they have gone on to great solo efforts. Buy it...and do it now before you waste your money on another trendy band that sounds like everyone else.

Great Compilation and Great Sound!
For a disc that's not digitally remastered and that was released in 1996, the sound on this cd is incredibly good! I've heard allegedly remastered discs that pale in comparison to the sound quality on this disc.CH is more than just "Don't Dream it's Over" which although is still my favourite track from them, that encouraged me to listen to their other works and perhaps with the exception of "Woodface", unless you are a die-hard fan, just getting this disc alone would be good enough. All the great tracks are represented here including "Better Be Home Soon" and "It's Only Natural". They have their very own unique songwriting style although after a while, the songs do start to sound the same which is why I gave this 4 stars.Still, the harmonies and lyrics the band employs are a joy to behold. If you are looking for a good representation of the band with very good sound quality then this is the one to get.Recommended.

Warning: This album is seriously addictive! Will possibly cause you to forsake all other music!
I'm one of the many ignorant folks here in the U.S.A. who only knew a few songs by Crowded House, although I've always counted "Don't Dream It's Over" on my short list of all-time favorite songs, and I also appreciated the music of Split Enz. What led me to purchase this CD was realizing that, in pretty much all cases, whenever I heard another CH song other than "Don't Dream," I invariably liked it. So I wanted to hear more. I am so glad I purchased this CD. I'm pretty sure that I'll have to buy a new copy by the end of this summer, because I have been carrying this one around with me from the house to the car and back again, so that I can listen to it constantly. This is brilliant stuff! Beautiful melodies, clever lyrics, and harmonies that break your heart and heal your pain simultaneously. A very belated (but very well-deserved) "Thank you" to Neil Finn for sharing his gift.

beautiful, soaring, exciting pop/rock
When I first listened to this disk, I could knew one Crowded House song (Don't Dream It's Over), which is a great song, but I didn't know the band. A friend recommended this disk, which I listened to the first time at work. I didn't get anything done for that hour, and if CD's could wear out, I'd long ago have needed to replace this one.Crowded House may not be a major band - one MTV hit, a couple of radio hits, and they're real big in New Zealand (where they are from) - but they are one of greats. Reminiscent at times of (OK, I know, this gets thrown around too often, but it's true) the Beatles (in their mid-years - think Rubber Soul) and The Ocean Blue, they can mellow with the best (Not the Girl You Think You Are, Four Seasons in One Day). When they choose to rock (Locked Out), the maintain musical and lyrical integrity. Weather With You is an indescribable joy.Perhaps not for metalheads, but anyone who likes sophisticated (but not overly complex) arrangements, thoughtful lyrics, and spotless, emotional performance will love this.

WHAT ARE THE YEARS AND ALBUMS OF THESE SONGS?
There are no years or albums attached to the songs on this cd. I never seen "Distant Sun" listed on any recording. These songs are so good.Crowded House is too good to even compare to some of the people I've seen them compared too.Crowded House is definitely going to be copied someday by these mutants being shown on MTV these days because these mutants sure as heck aren't musicians.Anyway, I think paul simon and the beatles suck and are so politically correct or whatever it's called that them gets them so much renown. Too bad we didn't hear much from CH in the US after their 1987 songs were played on the radio. These guys really sound good and they play their instruments so well and can make a captivating sound which is SO HARD and impossible to hear now on radio or even on satellite radio. Lots of cool sounds from instruments played so well on this cd.This is a great cd.

No gimmicks, just fine musicianship and great songs.
Crowded House studio albums have always possessed a crystalline quality, both of voices and instruments. The first disc of this double CD is no exception, being a collection of beautifully crafted, performed and engineered songs. The 19 studio tracks fully live up to the "very best" epithet. However, the great pleasure that I have derived from this album over a number of years is due largely to the second CD. This disc features a selection of live performances covering a range of styles and moods, with all songs being delivered with the same outstanding polish and clarity. Particular favourites are the punchy opener, There Goes God and the absolutely haunting Fingers Of Love. Perhaps most impressive, only 4 of the studio tracks are replicated on the live disc. A little audience participation is the prelude to the only quirky inclusion, Sister Madly, which seems a little out of place. It does, however, show the playful side of a band enjoying what they do best - entertaining the hell out of their audience. Either CD would justify the purchase price on its own. I come back to this collection time and again; it never disappoints.

All Gold
Like many of the reviewers I spent part of my childhood with my mum and step dad playing Crowded House every other hour. At the time I was far to obsessed with keeping my attempted image to want anything to do with what my mum liked. Now over ten years on I noticed this CD for cheap on Amazon and recalled some of the songs in my head which was just enough to tempt me into a purchase. I am glad I did.I can honestly say that of all my music as an overall album this greatest hits has to be one of the best CD's I own. This is one of the few CD's where I can put it on and have the certainty that every song I hear will excel. If you like me ignored this band in the 90's due to being too young to appreciate the music you should definitely look into buying it now, I can promise it will be one of the best musical investments you make. Sit and watch the memories come back to a brilliant soundtrack.
