$5 game, not worth full price.
The game itself did not come with instructions. It was pretty easy to figure out while playing. The quality of itself reminds me of the old Nintendo track and field. This is a game you should pick up used. Not worth full price about a $5 game.

Hours of fun
I bought this for my son who is 9 for Xmas along with some other games and he ended up playing this one the most. There are so many things to do that he can play it for hours. It reminds me of a game I used to play on my ZX Spectrum, Daily Thompson supertest. The games functionality is geared towards arcade type fun rather than exact realism and this is brilliant. It has that Sega feel to it. As its so cheap, this can be a great game to buy for kids that needs some hours of fun

So much fun
Wanted to get this to have a competition with my other half. We’re so competitive LOL.As an Olympian I’m slightly biased towards all Olympic goodies and just had to get this game. Loved building my character, love the game play and love the events on it too. So much fun!

Promised so much, but a weak offering
I've played the official Olympics video games for years on the various Playstation consoles, but this offering is perhaps the weakest of the bunch. The graphics are good, although a tendency to be distracting, and after a while even using Sonic the Hedgehog as your avatar gets a bit old very quickly. The music really grates after a while, as do the stadium noises/announcers/athlete calls so I soon reverted to listening to something other than my TV.There are 18 events covered with the game. From the off it is a bit disappointing to see no rowing, velodrome cycling, shooting, archery, equestrian, javelin, shot, discus, high jump, pole vault, triple jump etc but instead we have baseball, BMX, Football, and the new Olympic sport of Sports Climbing. But it's not just the lack of traditional sports it's the half-hearted attempt at all those sports they do include.A run down of the 18 events:100m Sprint - button bashing, with a strange ridiculous power-up, easy and soon gets dull.Baseball - strange game mechanics and initially I thought there was a glitch when everyone had strike outs except the very last opposition batter who suddenly turned into Babe Ruth and got the winning Home Run. So that becomes tedious very quickly.Boxing - Another missed opportunity. Some really good elements to it, but just lacking in execution and consistency of gameplay.110m Hurdles - Same as 100m with timing for hurdles. Easy...once you have gold in any difficulty level there's not much point playing it again.Basketball - This would be quite entertaining if the quarters were longer than 45 seconds. Can hardly scratch your nose, or any other body part, in that time!Hammer Throw - Timing again. But if you get it all perfect you can get a ridiculous distance of 106m. Once you've done it, you've done it. Next....Football - A bit worse than watching a non-league side of pensioners on a cold, wet, foggy Tuesday evening in November. I played several matches and neither I nor the opposition seem capable of scoring, even with a wide open net. It might as well be penalties from the start. Each half is only 1.30 mins, but it's so boring and clunky that I'm not sure having 5 mins a half would get many more scorers. Official Fifa games have nothing to worry about in terms of competition.Long Jump - Button bashing and timing.Beach Volleyball - Boing....boing....zzzzzzz100m Freestyle Swimming - Timing and button bashing, only slightly better than sprinting, but it does feel good to get the timing spot on and requires concentration.Table Tennis - Poor camera angle meaning poor viewing, and opponents that appear to have lost the point fifteen times then use the special whizzy shot mode and it zips past like a bullet.200m Individual Medley Swimming - Similar techniques to do with timing and whether you button bash or wax-on wax-off with the sticks.Tennis - It's only the first to two games, so not even a full set and the whizzy shot mode comes into play again and the opponent always seems to have their bar powered up just on match point or break point. Not hardly long enough to call it an experience, let alone a bad one.BMX - Button bash, jump, button bash, jump....zzzzzzzzSports Climbing - The controls for this are so clunky. A strange choice of sport regardless of it being show-cased at Tokyo, it's just zig zag up the wall, of which it would be more interesting to watch paint drying on it.Rugby Sevens - I love this event. It's fun and amusing, but it's just far too short in time.4x100m Relay Sprint - Button bashing and timing, see above....Judo - Could have been interesting but far too many move combinations that rarely seem successful with the next moment being flipped over for ippon.I want to like this game as I always have a soft spot for the Olympics, and parts of it, like the rugby are very good, but it's just so weak and wishy washy. And the really good parts of it are far too short, nearly feeling like a demo rather than a full game. I don't play games online, so maybe that makes it more interesting if you do. I don't really care for the daft costumes you can wear and despite having umpteen choices of how to tweak your avatar they all seem to come out very generic.I think children might enjoy the game, however, and perhaps competing as a family would improve the overall feeling of it, but if you always buy the Olympics official games you might be disappointed when comparing it with previous titles from previous Olympic Games.
