Illustrator's Figure Reference Manual (Illustrators Reference Manuals)

An indispensible reference book.
I self publish a mini comic called "Wrestler Zero" and as an artist I labored under the mistaken belief that using photo reference is "cheating" and that an artist should be able to draw everything from memory. Luckily, I learned the error of my ways and now I use books like this one to help me. The photos should serve as springboards for artistic interpretation because interpretation is where the "art" is.

its ok
pretty good except a lot of the models are posing in really baggy clothes so the human figure is lost.

From '87 and Still a Great Reference!
Great for getting acquainted with a wide variety of poses and angles. I didn't think it possible to fit so much into one book! I'm a comic book illustrator so this is a good reference for me, especially because every pose has the same shots from all directions. There's even a quick reference about keeping proper scale when combining poses.

Outdated Corny Poses
I was disappointed in the in the nature of the poses, which were exaggerated and cartoony. That would have been fine if I were using them to illustrate the life of Carol Burnett. I can't think of any other occasion when it would be necessary for me to need reference for what someone looks like brushing their teeth with back arched and buttocks in the air. I have used books in this series before and found them useful so I was surprised by how the extreme comedic attitude and outdated dress of the models made it unusable. The book was in good condition as promised.

2 and a half ...
The photos aren't really big enough to be that useful, it would've been nice to have these on a dvd, for enlargement purposes.
