RoboTech: Part 1 - The Macross Saga - Blu-ray + Digital

I've been a fan of old school animation for a long time. I remember when Robotech came on prime time television when it first debuted in 1985. The blu-ray quality is better than the actual cartoon when it first came on.The story, characters and technology were what made it engaging. It was also adult and serious for a children's cartoon. It's old school animation made by talented animators and the voice actors complete the icing on the cake. They don't make cartoons like this anymore.

No option for digital playback without signing up for yet another streaming service at a monthly cost. I thought I would get a digital code to add this to my Library to watch on my tablet or phone. Great to have the title available on Blu-ray. Remastering looks slightly better but the quality isn't as exceptional as other remastered movies I've purchased. But overall im happy to have the blu-ray to watch at my convenience. Greatest anime ever.

Just as fantastic now as it was when I was younger

The price was about $25.00. Every other place was about $50. Works great. Now I can er-live my childhood. The vintage look is part of the design of the packaging. Its new. The dvd inside is new. Looks cool looking. Worth the money.

Was at first excited that Robotech was coming out on BluRay. And as nice as this looks. It's turns out to be just a BluRay release of the "Robotech - Protoculture Collection". It doesn't include the original mono sound track. Just the 5.1 Protoculture one with all the extra sound effects added. Plus the only way to see the true Robotech opening animation is in the extras. Because it used the Protoculture version opening and closing animation. So unless you just need Robotech on BluRay or don't already have the Protoculture edition, I would say skip this release.

This is my favorite chapter of the series. The visuals have been upgraded to show more vivid colors but it’s the same great animation. I appreciate the effort in the sound effects the studio updated but feel like the changed effects don’t have as much punch as the original. Otherwise this is a great remaster and one to definitely add to your collection if you’re a long time fan!

It was a joy to see the series that i and my kids enjoyed so long ago. Hopefully, the rest of the series will become available.

i will recommend this show i love this show .i first watched it on cartoon network back in 1998. the reasoning for giving this show 2 stars was that i was hoping that they remastered it. they didn't the show had lines through the show and a little staticky and the colors where a little faded and some spots blurry. i know that the show first came out in 1985 in japan but i really was hoping they where going remaster it/fix the problem and give it a HD quality and also the dvd case is really flimsy and the 5 dvds are stuffed in 1 case . when you pull 1 dvd out the dvd on the other side will fall out having a chance of it falling on the floor breaking please stop selling dvds like this also place don't ship dvds in envelopes i get them broke 7/10 times i have to wait days to weeks to get it mailed to my house just to open it to find it broke and have to mail it back. i have had this happen 3 time this mouth. i give the show 4 stars but the product 2 stars for the quality and mailing service . thank you for your time

I love this series, and when I heard it was coming onto blue ray with upscale visuals, I was interested. When I heard it also came with a digital copy with my purchase I was like I need this now. Thinking I could take this beloved series with me to work to to rewatch this beloved series. SO BUYERS BE WHERE, your going to be disappointed a little bit. If your have free wifi your all good to go to watch this so via the funimation app. But if your don’t you are S.O.L. I would have given this blue ray a five out of five only if the actual gave you the capability to download to view via offline but unfortunately your going to have to pay for subscription to Funimation to download to the app🤦🏾‍♂️😞.

La calidad de imagen no es muy buena. Sin embargo, yo le encuentro valor al producto debido a que formatos físicos de la saga son muy (pero muy) raros. Solo para entusiastas que le guste coleccionar productos de este gran anime.

日本語音声が入ってなかった。よく見たらジャケット裏写真に記載がなっかった。しかし音楽とかイギリス仕様みたいで、これはこれで新鮮で面白そう。コレクターアイテムとしてはあり。日本版が欲しくなり考え中。

You will likely read a lot of low star review for this with people complaining about the film grain or a low visual quality.This made me hesitate to buy… but I end up getting it anyway and I am so happy that I did!!!While it is true you will see film grain, this is perfectly normal as it is an old anime rendered in HD Blue ray quality. It is made like this. You were not noticing it before TVs and medias were too basic.However, the tradeoff is a stellar picture quality. The frames are crisp, colours are vivid, everything is fluid and overall, its an amazing production value. You don’t even notice the grain after 1-2 episodes anyway.To me, Robotech has never looked this good. I will not go back to previous collections. Do yourself a favor, ignore the complain and grab it.Oh, and if its the first time you hear about Robotech, what are you doing? Get this and watch this now! Its a classic and better than Gundam to me too. A must buy!

I'm a huge Robotech fan and try to support the brand as much as I can. I was so excited to learn that Robotech was getting a blu-ray release! However, I cannot recommend this set. The picture grain is distracting and makes the restoration seem unprofessional, so what was the point? The audio is good, though (if you like the modern remix from earlier sets). I found the voices were a bit quiet compared to the music and effects.I paid money for digital copies by buying this set, and Funimation has yet to get them working for me. Sometimes they answer my emails; sometimes they don't. The result is the same: nothing. I haven't heard back from them for a while, so I think they've ghosted me - a paying customer!Please do some research if you still want to buy this. I wish I had! As another reviewer mentioned, "You have been warned."
