My second one!!
I don't know what's up with the bad reviews, but I already own this heating pad, I have had it for several years, It is great for back, leg and shoulder pain. I would know!! I really like it! Helps me through some rough stuff.I gave mine to my Dad and I now bought it again on here for myself. I went out of my way looking for this particular one because it has a "warm" setting and auto shut off. I originally bought it at Walmart and they no longer stock it.I do think it's a little over priced. I think I originally paid around $20 for it, but that was a few years back. Pre-pandemic, but I don't care, I will only use this one. All others are cheap and only have 3 settings with no auto-shut off.If it doesn't work or you are experiencing issues, maybe the problem is not the heating pad... Just sayin. Maybe check your electric outlet and/or check to see that the switch for the heating pad is "On".As far as the pad being uncomfortable, it is XL King size. Use it with the padded sponge side. If you still are not satisfied, you may want to get a heated blanket or something instead. This is for pain, not to snuggle with.

Good price/performance
Pros: Large, sturdy, heats up quickly, has four temperature settings(warm, low, medium, high), gets plenty hot (medium setting is usually as high as I want to take it), has two-hour auto-shutoffCons: Does not have override to two-hour shutoff (I.E, you can't leave in on longer without cycling it off and on), the "moist" option is a flimsy sponge that's smaller than the heating padBottom line: This heating pad works fine, has no real day-to-day issues and is reasonably priced. I could nick a half-star each off for the two cons but will not. I don't need the moist heat anyway and, if I ever do, I'll use a damp hand towel. I reckon that, without the mandatory shutoff, somebody would forget to turn the heating pad off, injure themselves and sue the manufacturer. I'd rather limit their liability and keep my price down. Some other reviews have stated that the product didn't get hot enough, took too long to heat, was hard to restart after the auto-shutoff, or that the hand-held control got hot. I've had none of these problems. To restart, turn the switch to the "off" position, count off two seconds ("one-mississippi, two-mississippi") and turn it back on.

Garbage and seller knew it was garbage!
Heating pad became very very hot when I first turned it on. I felt it was not safe to use. Then I notice that the label on the box clearly says: "Take Package to Problem Solve" and also "Package not in Shippable condition". This shows me that the seller is aware that there is an issue with this heating pad, yet they proceeded to sell it and make it non returnable. How shameful of them! I did not spend my money just to be sent your piece of trash. I am hopeful that the seller or Amazon will make things right with me. I'm trying to return it but only go around in circles. (I am not able to upload the picture of the label on the box.)

Why all the bad reviews?
I bought this heating pad a month ago in spite of some negative reviews it received, and I am very glad I did. I use it nearly every night before bed and it works great. The 4 heat settings give a wide range of temperatures- from gently warm to blazing hot. The hottest setting is usually too hot for me, but if you want that option it's there. I usually use one of the two middle settings. The size is also very good, it would probably cover all or most of an average sized back. However, in spite of the larger size, it still wraps easily around limbs, feet, etc. so this heating pad is quite versatile. The adjustment lever is easy to use, 2 hour shutoff works consistently and gives plenty of time for the heating pad to be effective. To reactivate after the auto shutoff, simply turn the lever to off, wait a moment, then turn it back on.All in all, this is a fantastic heating pad and I highly recommend it.

Heating
Product takes a bit to heat up. However it works when it is heated. Like the size and the cover where the prefabricated hole in the c'over allows the chord to go through so that the cover wont get lost. Nice touch for a remedy so simple.. just put a hole in it.

Average quality heating pad
This heating pad doesn't have high quality switch, however the heat is great! The heating is nice as it has three settings to choose from. The pad is slightly stiff and not very flexible. It has a soft flannel cotton cover that can by removed if needed.

Built to last.
If your looking for a heating pad that will last a long time, this is your pad. I use a heating pad every day. There is no fancy bells and whistles. Just a well made, long lasting heating pad. I love the heating pads that are kind of plush looking. I've tried several. The problem with these is where the cord meets the pad. This is a problem area because it's heavy here. It invariably causes to much strain on the wires, leading to failures. If you use a heating pad frequently like I do, you don't want this design flaw. This Sunbeam heating pad is like the heating pads that have been around for decades. It gets the job done and won't be broken in a matter of months. No frills but it won't let you down. The price is no frills either. You can spend a lot more money with other pads but they will not last.
