Passable read atleast, if not stellar!
Iris is not my favorite. And that took me a while to get around to liking the story. But she is flawed, different and out there. So she felt real. We don't always meet people we like in life, do we? Why should books and characters be different!Dex is a total babe by the book. He crosses all the T and dots every I. I liked slim, Blake, Son and the side characters. I'd love to read them, for them to have their own stories.First time reading her. All in all, a passable read, if not stellar.

Under Locke indeed
Loved it! It's a little different from her other books and but just as enjoyable. The lead characters had an adorable relationship. Go for it!

Good one
It was a nice roll of characters dipped into bikers and ink. Both the lead characters Dex and Iris were good. Story goes nice without any dramatic turn around...

Great
Just re-read this because M. Zapata has it as a freebie on Amazon (in case anyone is interested) and I had it on KU last time.Anyway, it was as good as I remembered. I’ve noticed things that escaped me before - or rather, I didn’t appreciate as much before. I was saying a million Hell Yes’es in my head while Iris was giving Dex some lessons in human interaction 101 lol.But honestly, I totally loved Iris. She had loads of self respect. Was she insecure and naive at times? Sure. But at the core she was strong. Despite saying how hot Dex was about 10000x times she didn’t once act like she lost her brain cells because of it.Dex was ... Dex. I mean I did like the guy. He gave me some really alpha male vibes, I’d just rather praise Iris cause she was the more interesting character for once. Sure, he had layers too, but this is one of those very few times in a romance book that I loved how the heroine acted, talked and held her own. (She did some pretty stupid shit at some point but I mean we all have our tstl moments - and it was just a moment, not a pattern of behaviour lol)Also, I wanna mention that this might be the only book where I really don’t mind the 24 yr heroine being a virgin. I mean, I kinda get how that would happen in her situation. Could I do without that tidbit and the double standard it usually enforces? Sure. Was it perpetuating a trend where the heroines need to be pure to be more worthy? NO. It really did make sense for her and her individual situation.Long story short... I need another Zapata slow burn and I think the time has come for From Lukov with Love.

Mariana goes far beyond the hype!!!
I’ve been hearing about Mariana Zapata’s books since i got back into reading romance. It seemed that everyone was ranting and raving about how amazing and impactful her stories were. I put off reading her work for so long, honestly, because I was afraid that the books wouldn’t live up to the hype, as so many other popular books i’ve found on Booktok and Booksta have proven to be. But let me be the first to say, that Mariana Zapata’s talent for writing an intriguing, interesting story that sucks you in so deep is one of a kind. This book was one of very few that had me wanting to finish it to know how the story ends, yet not wanting to finish it because I did not want to say goodbye to characters and a story that filled my heart and mind. Dex and Iris (and Sonny, Slim, Luther and Blake, of course!) captured my heart and attention, making me fall as in love with them as they are with each other. I don’t want to give too much away, but if you like the following to be a part of your story, then i highly suggest reading this book.-slow burn-motorcycle club-grumpy/sunshine-bit of an age gap-brother’s friend-workplace romance-witty banter between characters but also in the FMC’s personal point of view

A new author for me and I can highly recommend her story
Iris moved to Austin because she was unemployed having been let go six months previously and her half-brother Sonny said she could stay with him. She was at her lowest and when he found a job for her, she thought things would be okay until she met her new boss. Dex was without doubt a handsome man, covered in tattoos, and he stood over six feet tall as he growled at her on their first meet. He was impatient, grumpy and she didnt think she could last. But she did. There were lots of tears on her part and he told her to toughen up as many times as he said sorry. Gradually she learnt the job and became very aware of him brushing by her, little touches that made her tingle. He was part of a motorcycle club and Iris wanted to stay the hell away from anything that reminded her of her father. Someone came looking for her and her brother when money was owed by him, and Dex took on the role of protector. The story builds up the relationship Dex has with her and its lovely to see them connecting. A really good read and a fab story.

3.5 Stars
I enjoyed this book and love a good slowburn trope as it usually gives the angst and anticipation which keeps me on the edge of my seat and up all night reading. The plot line was good and I loved that it involved an MC as well as a good girl bad boy trope. (one of my favourites) However this wasn't up there with the other books I have read by MZ.I didn't connect to the characters I found the MFC rather annoying which made me lose interest. Dex was overbearing also which I was put off by. He didn't come off as the possessive alpha to me that he was portrayed as. There was also a lot of filler dialogue that I didn't feel necessary.I really love a lot of MZ books and will continue through her back list as she is the slowburn queen but this was just likeable not loveable for me.

My favourite Mariana Zapata book
I loved this book! The slow burn tension that builds throughout the story is excellent, and the spice... Perfect!Iris is a very endearing fmc who's had a really tough life. I loved seeing her relationship develop with her brother, Sonny; I wish we’d got to see more of them together. Plus Trip, too - he seemed like a fun character who we only got to enjoy for a short time.Dex. DEX? Dex... Dex is hot. I might need to check my feminism at the door, but ughhh, he could be a new favourite for me.But you know how I know that the tension was 10/10... that part in the book where Dex pierces Iris’s belly button?! Ah! So hot?! I loved it.I enjoyed this motorcycle club book. MC isn't usually my thing, the whole “old lady” and club wh*res vibe - I'm not a fan. But this book had none of that and focussed more on the family side of things.
