It snaps on tightly, but you can easily remove it if you need or want to. Only issue was the plastic tab covering the power button, could of been me but I found it very hard to press to get it the turn on and off so I snapped off the tiny plastic tab and it's perfect now.

I received the item and first thing I noticed was the bottom piece was a little bowed which I was willing to deal with and was able to kinda bend back into shape. I put it on my New 3ds Xl and instantly regretted it. first off it doesn't fit into place well, and you have to use a lot of force to get the thing on. Second, when I tried to remove the case it holds on to the back cover of the 3ds and digs into the side of system when you put it on. I almost pulled the back cover off completely trying to remove it. now I have paint scratches and chucks out of the side of my ds which was in perfect condition. I'm absolutely enraged at how crappy this thing was and the way it attaches to the 3ds. I have an actual New 3ds cover from years ago that I had on it and it doesn't use the seam on the side to attach. very poor design for a case. I would return it but since I had to bend it back into shape and threw the packaging away, im stuck with it. don't be like me! stay away from this product!

The case arrived a little bent, but still fit very well. It feels sturdy and doesn't seem like it's made of super cheap materials.

As I started to open the packaging I immediately noticed that it was bent, which wasn't a good sign. Once I got all the plastic off I was able to confirm a deep and obvious bend in the bottom portion of the case (The top portion is mostly alright, just with a bump beneath one of the camera holes.). The bend causes an obvious cosmetic mark, but also prevents the bottom portion of the case from attaching properly to the system. 2 stars because I was mostly looking for something to cover the top portion of my system and this does the job for that, but I can't overlook this issue that occurred in shipping.

The actual casing feels sturdy enough, though the little pad to push on the power button does not work with the back casing built on the 3DS. It's too big and doesn't hit the button. I learned that the hard way and broke the screw off the back of my 3DS since it clinged onto the case when I was removing it. Some pressure need to be applied to the case for it to actually click in properly doesn't feel too good for the DS. Though its relatively easy to get off, if your careful.
