Great Building block to learn programming, but poor fulfillment by Amazon!
I liked the videos and got used to the author's Southern accent. I am planning to take more programming classes after this and was happy with the added supplements. I understand why I have to scratch some code off to access online resources since this is the way the author can make some money since most people resell the book. It was fun to do the examples because it did pertain to real life, and the book has tons of pictures to understand the material. The only disappointment I had was the packaging was not adequate. I do not know who to blame my Carrier or Amazon. This book is way to big to put in cardboard cutouts instead of a box. As a result of this poor packaging it did make a huge dent by the cover, and ultimately does hurt the resale value of the book. I do blame Amazon I paid for Standard shipping to get this on time, so it is there fault I expect them to put this in a box if I pay for something.I did review the packaging as poorly either they ignored my comments or didn't care since I didn't get a response, so I do blame Amazon this wasn't the first time this happened ordering something either.I do take care of my books and was planning to resell this book. Now when the Semester is over I will just resell it online for Amazon Credit instead.

Well written book, but not all of the promised Student Resources are available
This book is very well written and covers a lot of material. The on-hands exercises are extremely useful for writing VB code. If you were looking into learning VB on your spare time, this book would get you started. With that said, I'm new to programming and the professor I currently knows their stuff and they make the course challenging. This is a good thing, however when it comes time to taking takes, being tested for 4 chapters at a time is a lot to take in.The main reason why the instructor chose this book was because of the Student Resources the book says they offer. The video notes are great, but when you advertise a product that the student has access to Self-study test, they should have it. My professor is tough and I'm struggling a little. I went to the Student Resources for my book and the Self-study test does not even exist on the site. I Called Customer Support at Pearson and they stated they would "investigate". Just a little disappointed that the Self-study test is not available, I'm sure this particular resource would have helped identify my comprehension of the chapters and doing better on my test taking.

To somone already with programming knowledge: useful if you don't want to pay for a haircut (you'll pull it out before long)
This book will very carefully detail EVERY SINGLE PROCESS you need to learn to use for Visual Studio. And I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE.This is your standard textbook experience, and you will get real tired of it, real quick. As a reference, it's not bad, but it is by no means an easy read. Some chapters are up to 100 pages in length, and there is a tremendous amount of examples. Samples of how to use Visual Studio itself can go on for anywhere from 1/2 to 3 full pages. Some of the example problems can go on for over 10 pages. As I have the Kindle version, it's a real side-scroller (trust me; you will spend just as much time scrolling over content as reading other content). If VB is NOT your first programming language[, and this is not required by your course], may I point you to the search bar, where you might like to try something like "Visual Basic for Dummies", and then collect yourself the newest edition of that instead? However, if VB is your first programming language, this might help you out. But, this book is written EXACTLY as you'd expect a textbook to be, and it has an EXTREMELY slow learning curve.

Missing Support Resources
I bought this text in March 2013 and spent something like $130.Page xxv indicates the learner should logon to pearsonhighered.com/gaddisvbto download the student sample programs. I soon discovered this site was not yetavailable and was told to wait until May. On May 15th the site was still not up andafter contacting Pearson Publishing I was told it would not be available until July 19th. The text also contains an access code with which the learner can logon to a site known as"myprogramminglab." After entering the access code I discovered that this web site was not yetavailable. When I questioned this I was told there is no projected time for this resource tobe available. What the %^&#$%! I trusted Pearson to provide a complete product when I purchased this text. Likewise, Ihad faith that the authors would not release this text without all indicated resources being madeavailable to the learner. While these student resources are perhaps not absolutely critical to the learning process it is a disservice and in my opinion deceitful to release this text in March with a "promise" that the student resource files will be made available 4 months later. Pearson and the authors of this text have seen my last purchase - they no longer have my trust.

another great book by gaddis
Gaddis is one of my favorite authors of textbooks on programming. His books are always easy to read and understand with code examples put in just the right places in the text so you don't have to flip back and forth to reference something

Basic vb
I find this book to be useful to provide a basic overview of Visual Basic. It does have some beneficial application modules that helped me understand it more efficiently.

Excellent Book for beginners and experts.
Great book for those who want to learn visual basic. It easy to follow and gives you lots of tutorials to do. It also allows for you to download the GUI online so you dont have to build it yourself which is nice. I had to get this for a class, but will probably keep this well into my career to refer back to.

I am only into the 3rd chp. by the end of VB 2012 I might be able to rate it even higher.
Due to only being through the 3rd chapter I have to leave a little room for adjustment in my rating. This has been, so far one of, the best laid out text books that I have ever had the privilege of studying.
