The Other Morgans

This was a delightful book to read. I especially loved the main character A. J., a young woman who is eking out a living on a farm in a rural community in West Virginia. A.J., who can potentially inherit a vast estate and millions of dollars from an unknown relative in Virginia, is accused of rising about her raisings, but she is not held back by unfair stereotyping as an Appalachian hillbilly. She is strong, smart and capable and always was with or without vast wealth. She demonstrates her abilities to lead, to make decisions, and to look after her family, proud of her Appalachian heritage.

With the creation of The Other Morgans, Carter Taylor Seaton has produced a page turner enabling the reader to travel with her heroine AJ Porter between a hollow in Fayette County, WV, and a historic farm near Charlottesville, VA. AJ, with family connections in both places, must choose where she wishes to make her home and what she wants to do with her life. Descriptions of the land are vivid as are characters–living and dead. Not only is the contemporary story woven into compelling fiction but so are stories of past lives through letters, diaries, and memories of the living characters. Twists and turns In plot make this book difficult to put down. A most enjoyable read.

I have now read several of Carter Seaton Taylor’s works and have enjoyed every one including this one.
