As an adult just learning piano this work book is a big help. The adult learning books were too advanced.

I love this book for both reading and for learning to transcribe.

My 6 year-year-old son has taken one-hour weekly lessons for the past year and early on, his teacher asked me to buy the Notespeller series as a companion to her instruction. She gives him two or three pages a week to work on as homework, which can be done anywhere and don't need the piano. He is currently tackling transposition and the book makes it interesting and engaging to work on and reinforces the theory behind the music. As I said in the review for Book 2, one of the best things about the Notespeller series is that my son can focus on other things during his lessons - his teacher can focus on expression and phrasing and dynamics and the money I spend on lessons has a better result... because she doesn't have to spend any time on note reading, hand positions, or key changes because he has that solid... partly through his year-long work in the Notespellers. The activities are different enough to be amusing and captivate the interest of even relunctant learners, while maintaining the same "characters" and themes throughout the books to be comfortingly familiar. I HIGHLY recommend these workbooks as a companion to piano instruction for kids.

All of the 3 notespeller books in this series are the BEST I've used. Each book takes the characters (Party Cat and Spike) on a themed adventure, and challenges students to complete assignments based around a day on their adventure. Every page is illustrated in color, and is narrated in a fun way that engages students' imaginations. Many of the assignments are a fill in the blank type story, which are my kids' favorites. This book has inspired even my most difficult students!

Had to buy this book as it is the one the piano teacher uses. Our daughter loves the tunes and the CD adds to the experience.
