Too much fluff
One of the things I don't like about the book is it wastes my time on needless sentences and paragraphs and lengthy explanations that are not relevant for the test. Some of the subjects that are so elementary, no lengthy explanation is needed--a simple sentence could replace a whole paragraph. For example, if I am one month away from taking the test, why would I need to read a paragraph on the history of something. I have read all that stuff in a larger book and there is no reason to include it in a book that is suppose to review for the test. With good editing they could cut 50 to 100 pages from the book. The "Study Resources" at the end of each day's lesson could also be eliminated--it serves no purpose. It is not going to help me with only 31 days before the test. What they should include are some difficult end of chapter questions that would test some of your knowledge, and help build confidence going into the test.It is not all bad. It is a good review of the concepts and commands, just too much needless fluff among the good information.

It is a good overview to refresh your memory about the basics of networking. However, each chapter is very brief. If you require more detail, like how a textbook explains things, this is not the book for you. If you just need reminding of the basics, then this book will serve you well.

Excellent book. Very concise and to the point
Excellent book. Very concise and to the point. It is basically the key points I would highlight in the big books.Note, there is a pretty important typo on page 135."Encrypt all the clear-text password in the running config by using the service-password encryption command:""R1 (Config)# service-password encryption"It should be "service password-encryption". I have been asked this question before and this statement could cost you a question on the exam.

Great study aid, some issues with the ebook
The book is good if you're studying for your CCNA, as it concisely covers the exam topics you need to know in a quick review format. My only complaint is that the ebook format won't let you zoom in on the tables, so information provided in that format is very hard to read, as it is so small.

good read but some knowledge needed
So far this is a very good book, but it is not for someone start from scratch. This is more of a cram guide for those who know alot about cisco and are having last minute jitters and need to reinforce it.

Great and to the point.
This guide was a great tool to really point out what you need to know on the exam. You need to use this as a tool after your primary study resource. This will not give you all the answers to complete the exam it provides you with a topic blueprint that will let you know it you have touched on all the Informaiton covered on the test.

Very good book
I passed my ICND1 with this book. Sad to here CCENT is going away though. Great book for studying basic routing and switching though.

Excellent exam prep for CCENT
Must have book for any CCENT or CCNA exam candidate. No matter what experience or training you've had, this book is well worth it as a final prep and review for exam day. I bought this and the CCNA version and passed both on my first attempt.

Perfect recap book prior to exam
I really enjoyed this book due to how concise and straight to the point it was, yet still covering the main topics without being too overwhelming. It's well structured and easy to navigate. I studied CCNA at college so had access to CiscoNetacad which could be a nightmare when trying to find revision type material as I found important points were masked. This book is ideal to carry around and read on journeys to and from college/work or even on lunch breaks etc. This book on it's own is not enough to pass the CCNA exams and I wouldn't recommend reading this before the Official Cert guide or Netacad materials for example. You will definitely need to look at other books, videos, websites, flash cards, prep questions and basically anything else you can get your hands on to pass. I still (after passing) keep the book on my desk as it contains useful reminders/refreshers.It comes with a 'calendar' type one-pager at the beginning of the book so you can jot down when you want to finish each topic but I didn't bother. The chapters are short enough that sometimes I covered more than one and ended up ahead of my own schedule. I'd recommend creating your own calendar which incorporates other materials to cover alongside the chapter you're reading.I would definitely recommend this for revision material, as opposed to a comprehensive guide.

Very Good Summary
I think this book is very good at summarising the things you need to know for ICND1. I have ordered the very recently published ICND2 edition on the strength of the quality of this book. You can do topics day-by-day if you want, but if you know some topics well, you can skip them. This book alone will not give you the content you need for ICND1 - the best book for that, in my opinion, is Wendell Odom's book which comes with practice tests on a DVD (the e-Book does not have the DVD). However, I also studied with the Cisco Network Academy material on-line, which gave me access to more material - most of which is in the Cisco Press companion guides.Used together, I think these books are a powerful combination. I recently passed my CCENT exam (aka ICND1, the first part of CCNA revision 5, updated late 2013).
