Great Bags vs Simple Human: a Tie
Because the reviews for GBFL are variable, and sometimes contradictory, at least as far as comparing them with Simple Human, I decided to do as straight a comparison as I could with the Simple Human E bags and GBFL E bags. Obviously not a scientific, double blind study, but still maybe useful. As the attached pics show, they are virutally identical in measurements (SH on the left). They each fit the relevant container about equally well, no overhang, no excess. Not sure why some reviewers say the GBFL bags don't fit. They do.And since some other reviewers say the GBFL are cheaply made compared to the Simple Human, I did a quick and dirty strength test: I put a 20lb dumbell in each and lifted each for 60 seconds. Neither failed; neither even showed any distortion after the dumbell was removed. GBFL says their bags are 1 mil thick. SH doesn't list a thickness but says theirs are "double-seamed." I found no difference in the seams or apparent thickness of either bag. I didn't try to see how long they could hold the weight before they failed. Neither seemed ready to break. 20 lbs of trash is a fair amount and 20 lbs of dumbell concentrated in the bottom of any bag for a minute is a fair comparison. The one real difference, for me at least, is the GBFL bags are much easier to dispense. The SH bags are a bit of a pain to get out and they insist on stuffing them in small outer bags, in batches of about 20. See the pic. So instead of getting 100 bags in one box you get 5 batches of 20 in 5 separate larger bags with a fairly tiny opening. It's like putting a batch of 100 envelopes inside five bigger envelopes at 20 a pop instead of just putting them all in one box. Just makes it more of a pain to get them out.Otherwise I could find no real difference. If the way they're packaged doesn't matter to you, it's a tie. Hope this helps.
