One of the best in the series!
This is definitely one of my favorite books in the series! The titular reunion happens when a convicted murderer that Eve had arrested, Julianna Dunne, is released from prison and returns to killing. Julianna has a deep-seated contempt for men in general and a twisted respect for Eve. She was convicted for killing two husbands for money, although she got away with killing the first husband because she claimed diminished capacity due to be sexually abused by her stepfather while she was a teenager in Texas.Twisted respect for Eve, yes, but she still wants revenge for the years in prison. So she kills 3 targets - middle-aged, affluent, nice men - just because she can. Then Eve gets a hunch that she will soon target Roarke as final revenge. In the meantime, Eve is doing the routine work to track Dunne down, but stays a step behind.Eve, accompanied by Roarke, goes to Texas to interview the stepfather, who lives on a ranch outside Dallas. I absolutely loved Eve's encounter with Texas and rural America!!!"“This guy’s loaded,” she went on, slightly mollified by the roaring clack of a helicopter that buzzed the near field. “He’s got a thriving, successful business in Dallas. But he chooses to live out here. Voluntarily. There’s something really sick about that.”""She let out a little breath of relief when she spotted the ranch house. It was enormous, sprawling all over hell and back on one story. Portions of it were painted that same bright white and others looked to be fashioned from stones cobbled all together on a whim. There were sections built of glass, and she nearly shuddered at the idea of standing there looking out at field after field. And having what was in those fields looking in at her."LOL!!!Then Eve has Roarke take her into Dallas, to the location where she had been found as a half-starved, abused and broken 8-year old. She relives the events leading up to when she finally killed her father. And she has no nightmares after that, for the rest of the book. There are some many good bits in this one. Peabody gets to solve her first case in her own. Peabody's parents come to visit and turn out to be quite the interesting couple!Dr. Mira goes to visit Roarke after Eve confronts her memories. "How difficult for him, she thought, this man who looks like, thinks like, a warrior to stand without a lance to protect what he values most."" I love her, too.”He looked at her, that serene face, those eyes so filled with quiet understanding. “Yes, I see you do.”"And you.”He blinked once, slowly, as if translating some foreign tongue. With a soft laugh, she got to her feet. “The pair of you always seem so baffled and suspicious when offered free affection. You’re a good man, Roarke,” she said and kissed his cheek. The usual banter between Eve and Peabody: "“Do you think adding ‘sir’ on the end of that is going to save you from my considerable wrath?”"Maybe, but I’m more confident I can outrun you in your current state of health.” She held up two fingers. “How many do you see?” “The two I’m going to rip off and stuff in your ears.”"Oddly, it reassures me to hear that, Lieutenant.”And a very unusual tender moment between them:"No, sir.” Her voice was thick as she lifted those drenched eyes to Eve’s. And smiled. “She gave it to you, and that means she trusts you. She accepts. You’re family. And you put it there, right there on your desk, and that means you accept. It’s a real moment for me,” she added and dug out a handkerchief. “I love you, Dallas.”"Oh jeez. If you try to kiss me, I’ll deck you.”And Roarke, being Roarke:(Eve) "How about if I just call you the Civilian Roarke? You know, like a title.”"Perhaps if you punched it up just a bit. As in the Awesome and All-Powerful Civilian Roarke. Has a ring.”And finally, when Eve FINALLY gets her woman: "Now I’m going to give you your civil right to remain silent.” So saying Eve punched her full in the face and knocked her cold.In short, this book is awesome and if you haven't read it, you should do so immediately. After you read the first 13 of them, of course.

5-stars: 'Reunion in Death' by J.D. Robb
Reunion in Death is the fourteenth book in the In Death series written by J.D. Robb. This book was one I had a hard time putting down. I even got mad when I couldn’t read it due to other obligations. I needed to find out if Eve was going to capture the murderer.Storyline/My Thoughts: This has to be one of the favorites in the series for me(so far). I know J.D. Robb will give me more favorites, but this one was full of everything I love in the Romantic Suspense genre. It had a killer on the run that Eve Dallas had already put behind bars, but this killer is out for revenge. The killer is also female, which writers don’t have the killer as female (most of the time). Well, J.D. Robb gives us all kinds of killers, and sometimes these killers will provide you with nightmares. In this case, though, this one is trying to best Eve, and she’s out to make it known that Eve and her husband is a target. I didn’t like this killer and wanted Eve to catch her. When you are reading this book, you will find out why this killer is someone Eve can’t stand. I don’t want to give anything away, but when Eve confronts the killer, the very ending of this book had to be the best scene ever. She apprehended the killer in her way, and everyone let her. 🙂Another reason why I loved this book was the constant banter and humor in it. I couldn’t stop laughing at certain scenes. Eve was not prepared. Eve is put in her place several times in this book by her husband, the doctor Louise, and other characters. Roarke knows how to handle Eve, though, especially when she puts herself in dangerous situations. Eve also needs to realize that Roarke can take care of himself, and she starts to recognize it in this book. One scene in this book made me mad because readers will get to relive what Eve went through as a kid when she goes back to Dallas. I felt so bad for Eve and felt for Roarke, too. Eve needed to confront her past, and I’m glad that Roarke was there for her.Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the In Death series.Would I recommend this book? Yes, most definitely. This book receives five stars from me. I would recommend this book and the series to readers that love the Romantic Suspense genre. I’ve said this before if you are a little weary since the series is a big one, don’t be. I’m reading 1-2 books a month for the #InDeathReadALong Challenge, and I’m determined to catch up since J.D. Robb is still writing the series. I love the characters, and I love the storylines.

In Death book 14
I've totally fallen in love with this series and lately I just can't seem to get enough of Eve and Roarke. Reunion in Death has a lot of emotional upheaval for Eve, as always she has a killer to track down but in this book she's also forced to face more of her past when the case takes her to Dallas to interview a potential witness. I always find it really painful seeing Eve relive her childhood traumas and this book was even more heart wrenching than the others but it's good to see her learning to rely on Roarke for support and even turn to Dr Mira for extra help when she needs it. She'll never get over what happened but hopefully she will eventually find better coping mechanisms and stop her regularly recurring nightmares. While this book was quite dark in places it also had plenty of the humour fans of the series already know to expect. Eve has decided Peabody is ready for more responsibility and she gives her a cold case to work on her own. I love seeing how far Peabody has come under Eve's watchful eye and seeing Eve as a teacher shows us a different side to her character. We also have a visit from Peabody's parents which I have to admit was a bit on the weird side, Peabody's mother somehow manages to manipulate Eve into inviting them to dinner and then she manages to get Roarke to invite them both to stay which was surprising to say the least. I'm not sure why they'd choose to spend their time staying with Eve and Roarke not with their daughter - well the mansion, swimming pool and incredible food might have something to do with it! - but it was still odd. There were some interesting conversations while they visited but I didn't like the way they ended up making Eve feel uncomfortable in her own home though.I found the murderer in this book quite fascinating though, it's not often we go into a book in this series already knowing who the killer is but that's exactly what we have here. Eve has already caught this murderer once but she's now been released on parole and immediately gone back to her old ways. What's interesting here is seeing Eve work out how to capture someone who has spent years planning her crimes and who hasn't left them many clues to work with. It was also interesting to come across a female serial killer, not something we see often in real life or fiction. Julianna was a worthy opponent for Eve and their battle of wits was extremely entertaining. It's not often that I get 14 books into a series and still find myself desperately wanting more so J.D. Robb is doing a wonderful job on that front and I have a feeling it's not actually going to take me too long to catch up on the remaining 30 or so books that have already been published!

"Right on Recipe"
I guess it's hard to alter the recipe when you've had stellar success with the one you crafted at the outset. The author has legions of loyal followers and after almost two hundred titles the odd OK rating won't carry any weight. Well-written, professional, and guaranteed to sell well, but I need something different. Time to seek new blood,

I really like Peabody.
Some comments in here may be SPOILERS - read with cautionI am still thoroughly enjoying this series. The dialogue and interplay between the characters has, in my opinion, improved a great deal since the first book. The character that is Peabody has become one of my favourites and the comments and asides are highly amusing. The endings have all been quite thrilling but this one in particular had me holding my breath until the final moments (trying to avoid a spoiler here) and then I was on the edge of my seat. The fact that the end cannot really be in doubt as there are other books to come does not detract from the thrills and spills of the conclusion.Another very enjoyable read.

Just as good as the previous 13!
Reading J D Robb's books in numerical order is fabulous. Like reading one huge book that carries on from where the previous one left off. Well rounded believable characters that u h ave come to know and care about, and their collective and individual stories progress in each book. I am going to be sorry when I get the the last and current volume and then have to wait once a year till the next one comes out as I d o for Nora Roberts books (J D Robbs alter-ego). Enjoy!

Murder most foul
I am absolutely loving this series. Getting to know the characters and reading how their relationships are developing.I started at book 1, never expecting to get so totally hooked. Its set only about 45 years in the future, but the imagined changes by J D Robb are fascinating, who am I to say that it won't be true.Dallas and Roarke, what complicated and damaged people, to have found each other and still be together despite coming at the murders from different sides of the fence, can't wait to see if she gets pregnant...think Roarke will have his work cut out then!!!
