Not waterproof, and neither is the iphone 7. The case seems to be more dust resistant than dust proof.

How do I get the case apart on install on the phone. I'm ready to take a hammer to it.

First grab the edge of the softer material and pull it away from the top and bottom hard materials. This will separate them. Then after cleaning your phone screen , place the top and hard shell protectors on the phone and then, slide it in the outer shell that is a little softer. Make sure it fit snug and with no gap between the outer shell and the hard shells. This guarantess true dropping shock protection. If still have a difficult time with it, refer to YouTube video on the case installation. You will succeed as I did it the same way. Best of Success

I don’t think so it’s all plastic.
