Simple, Easily Adjustable, and Priced Well
My mother-in-law just moved, and her 81-year-old back just isn't up to reaching her clothes on her new high closet rod. Her acupuncturist suggested lowering the rods to avoid injuring her back. I cast about looking for a commercial product, and found several "Closet Doublers," which when set at their lowest, would allow you to "double" your closet space by hanging clothes on two levels. She didn't need to double her closet, just to lower the rod a few inches. SO I looked for adjustable-height closet doublers and rods. (Some much simpler "doubler" designs are not adjustable at all.)The first rod I found was a good price and works well for her, but I wasn't completely happy with it (see link below), so when I was ordering more rods for her other closet, I searched and found this closet rod. This rod is adjustable in two dimensions -- you can set the height anywhere along the pole in 1-inch increments, and you can adjust the width among several latching positions. This way I was able to create lowered rod space along every inch of her two large closets.About the only downside I can imagine is this rod requires a bit of assembly. My mother-in-law's arthritic hands, probably would have had trouble manipulating the fittings. Each vertical rod and the horizontal rod ships in two pieces. The vertical rods screw together, and the hooks screw into the tops. The horizontal rod fits together and "locks" among several positions using a push-button latch (like the latch button on an old-fashioned vacuum cleaner wand). Each rod only took me a couple of minutes to assemble. (It took about as long to open each box and remove the plastic bags from all the pieces...)Once you get the three rods assembled, you decide where you want the horizontal rod to go, and you snap a cylindrical wedge at the same height on each vertical rod and lower the horizontal rod ends onto the wedges. The weight of the horizontal rod squeezes each wedge against horizontal scored notches on the vertical rods so they don't slip. (You may have seen this before -- many types of wire shelving use the same design to support shelves on vertical rods.) The manufacturer supplies an extra wedge in each box, just in case. This closet rod is easily adjustable and plenty sturdy enough for my mother-in-law's clothes. I'm giving it a 5-star rating because compared to the other rod I bought 1346 Closet Doubler by Organize It All this one is also finished very nicely. (After this one is screwed together, there are no rough edges to worry about tearing skin or clothes.) I paid the same price as the other rods (about ten bucks) which I considered quite reasonable.I don't know the weight limits, though the instruction sheet warned this rod is NOT suitable for hanging "children, adults or pets." Consider yourself warned.

Great Little Item!
I got this item to add to a commercial garment rack that I had purchased. It was super easy to put together and functions exactly as it should--no muss, no fuss! It is also well made and there appears to have been a fair amount of thought that went into the design. I didn't hang really heavy stuff on it--too chicken, I guess. I'm sure it would have held up to the weight of the slacks but I just didn't feel like chancing it. I've hung my slacks from the garment rack rod and have blouses hanging on the bottom extension. I like the idea, too, that it's expandable. I don't have it open as wide as it will go yet it still affords plenty of room to hang things on. The expandability is a nice feature that I will be able to use as my closet configuration changes. All in all, it's well worth the money.

Good but needs bigger hooks
Great idea, good implementation except for the hooks. They are too small for my wooden closet rod that is about 1.25" in diameter.Otherwise, decent quality, easy to put together, nicely adjustable, and currently at a good/great price of less than $8.If only they included a smaller set of hooks and a larger set that would properly accommodate my closet rod, that would have upped it to 5 stars.

Really perfect for small apartment space
I really love this rod. It was so useful and exactly what I wanted. 1. The hooks are a great size and seem to fit most closet rods. 2. the adjustability is pretty easy to set (so long as you don't want to change it again later because it's a little hard to take apart). The width was perfect for the closet. One thing that you have to get used to is that when you hang stuff on the lower rod, it will swing a little, but it's a small annoyance to double your closet space.I recently took it apart because I was moving and didn't need it anymore, and that was a little bit harder than I wanted to do. Good because it never came apart or had structural issues while in use, but doesn't make it great if you want to keep adjusting the height. It's not a big problem - I would still highly recommend it.

Double the space
In one part of my closet I have a really high hanging rack that blouses go on top and below are pants and skirts but about 5' of the end of the closet is open space for long robes, nightgowns, evening gowns. I don't have that many robes and evening gowns in this closet so I wanted more space and bought this rack. I only wish that designers would get with the program and ask today's women what they want because this would have been so much better if it had been wider and could have been made wider due to the strong metal used. I could actually have used double the width, but I put the bar on the very lowest and I hang my jackets on the top part and my winter pantsuits on the bottom rung. It is sturdy enough for all of that and then some. JUST NEED SOME LIKE THIS BUT WIDER, MUCH WIDER................

Really good to make more space in your closet.
I really recomend it. My closet is not that big so I bought 2 of these, (one for my husband and one for me); they took a long time to arrive but I really like the product. You can also adjust the high. I set on top my tshirts, and in the lowes line my pants. The space that It made in my closet allows me to set some storage plastics drawers, giving me more space where to keep my clothes in order. The plastic drawer that complemented the organization of my closet space is:Sterilite ClearView 3 Storage Drawer Organizer by STERILITEI bought some of this size and some bigger ones and I love how my closet is organized now.I would also say that the Adjustable Hanging Closet Rod could work in an extra closet just to organize and hang clothes from season to season if you don't want to get rid of them.

probably for short term storage only
maybe I just hung too many clothes on it, however this product only lasted me 2 years before it snapped and could not be repaired without welding it back together. But it was great for those two years!
