“Bio-Retinol” Plant Extract May Provide Benefits, But Cream Irritates My Sensitive Skin (3.5 Stars)
This Codex Antu Brightening Night Cream comes in a tube with a good pump. This seems to be a night cream with a natural emphasis and “bio-identical Retinol”. It’s a non greasy white cream that absorbs easily and has a light smell. It adds some hydration, softens and smooth my skin somewhat (likely from Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate). It doesn’t feel as rich as my usual night creams, but I have dry skin and find adding a facial oil makes this feel hydrating enough. However, shortly after application, my face turned red. While I wouldn’t say my face was burning, it didn’t feel calm or comfortable. Within a few more minutes it got a prickly, itchy feeling. I washed it off before going to sleep as I have sensitive skin and allergies, and I didn’t want to risk a bad reaction. My skin color did turn back from red to fairly normal within just a few minutes of washing, but my face felt itchy for a couple hours. My reaction was very similar to when I first tried retinol. That may or may not be coincidence. I really have no way to can’t judge if my reaction was in the normal range or if it was irritation or allergy. I decided to use the cream on the back of my hands at night as the skin is less sensitive there, and my hands need moisture and brightening. It’s too soon to judge benefits, but my hands aren’t having any issues thus far and my skin feels soft and smooth. As to my face, I don’t see alcohol or harsh chemicals that I know bother my skin. I looked up some info and this is EWG Certified, but EWG does note this has lemon and lime peel that are moderately risky irritants and also puts this cream in the red zone for allergy risk. So it’s highly possible that this simply does irritate my face from the citrus. But I may be allergic to something else, or it may be allergy and/or reaction to the “bio-Retinol” ingredient. If true allergy, I’d think my hands would have a problem but who knows.Bidens Pilosa (Black Jack) extract rates low risk by EWG, though it’s in the Asteraceae plant family and I’m highly allergic to plants in that family (which cause me to get hay fever and contact allergies). Black Jack extract has anti aging properties and is a potentially effective “bio-Retinol” that can have illuminating or brightening effects, it can soften, hydrate and calm the skin and it can help treat acne and psoriasis.I like that this Antu Night Cream may provide a plant based alternative to Retinol, but I can’t gauge the benefits as my sensitive skin doesn’t seem to tolerate this cream. My hands tolerate it so far, and I like it enough to keep using it. Still, I don’t yet know to what extent it will brighten or otherwise benefit my hands or someone who can tolerate it on their face. I can’t fully recommend this cream despite its potential, but I’ll update my rating if I end up with positive benefits. 3.5 stars. Made in Ireland.

Overall very good
This night cream by Codex Beauty, is something that I really appreciated using. Upon its application, it does a wonderful job of saturating right into the skin very quickly, and leaves the skin feeling nice soft and supple. I was actually quite amazed by how soft my skin felt, and I am someone who tends to have a dry spot here and there, so not always the softest skin texture. This cream did do a great job of softening me up though. I would use it as a night cream as is suggested, and I found with prolonged use that it did do a pretty decent job of evening out my skin tone, because I have areas of age spots that have created a bit of discoloration in some spots. Overtime, I felt like my skin had lightened a bit in those areas, and the tone of my skin had evened out. I think the composition of this cream is fantastic, and really does a great job from a functional perspective. I only wish it didn't stink. I don't mean stink like it's no good, I mean stink like it doesn't smell very nice. I was able to overlook that however, because the scent doesn't linger very long. As a moisturizer, I found it to be very good. I don't suffer from sensitive skin or anything like that, but I am prone to a dry spot here and there, which tends to react poorly with certain ingredients in skin care products, but with this night cream I didn't have any irritation whatsoever. My experience with it was very pleasant, if you subtract the smell of the cream, but performance wise it works extremely well. It is on the expensive side of things, but I felt it could possibly be justified with the results that I gained.

Brightening Night Cream?
This night cream is non-greasy and absorbs quickly. It comes in a tube with a pump top. Sometimes the cream comes out separated into part liquid. I think the scent is probably from the Limonene and Linalool (think citronella candle) ,not a scent I like to sleep with.An eighty dollar reduction in price would make it more commensurate with the quality.

This is a nice product
It has been developed to be used at night to give your skin uniformity. During the night, it works to rehydrate, soften and make your skin more supple. I woke up and, in the morning, my skin looked nice. And it felt even better.

Cream feels amazing- I felt skin tightening - product smell is less desirable
Hmm I’ve never heard of this brand before- but I don’t go out of way to get the latest and greatest beauty items or find out. I’m to busy with kids to do that. Luckily, I have tried oppurtitnu woth this program.First thoughts. It’s sealed - love that. It has a different type of bottle. It’s a squeeze bottle with a pump. I used it and well the smell - peee-ewww. I don’t like the smell at all. It’s very citrus enhanced- I read some say it’s limes too. It might be a combination of orange peels and limes and I don’t like either smells regardless. Now I can’t speak for the brightening affect, but it did absorb very well into my skin- I actually felt my skin tightening for about 10 minutes. Maybe my skin was reacting with the product. Pretty cool regardless. Is it worth the 90ishbdollars. Um- for me no. The smell does it for me- but I think the cream itself is really nice.
