Money not well spent
Could not connect to WiFi but that didn't bother me all that much. Battery life not known because the unit stopped working after about 2-3 weeks of use. Thought the batteries might be the problem so I changed them. Then I changed them again because it didn't turn on. Turned out the batteries still had power, the unit itself is just dead. Cost me around $280 with shipping and I can't recommend staying away from this strongly enough.

Great product! Has a lot of key features.
Overall a great product and I'm very satisfied.I don't use the knocking detection but only the motion detection configuration. It would take about 10% of battery power on the configuration day. I would recommend to watch Brinno's installation video on Youtube to properly configure the motion detection.Advantages:+ Portable and Aesthetic.+ Pictures can be be viewed by App.+ Great Motion detection, Sends pictures to chosen email address.Disadvantages:- Consumes a lot of battery power. I would recommend to buy rechargeable 4xAA batteries.- Cannot control configuration via the phone's application.- Only able to capture photos, not videos.

Terrible WiFi - but otherwise this system is EXCELLENT!
DISABLE your "Knock Sensor" to conserve battery power (see picture), and just use your Motion Sensor. After all, if someone knocks on your door - they'll have already been picked up by the motion sensor (& not just in theory, but in realworld practice as well).I did this because I was changing batteries every two or three days. Now i change them every 2 or 3 weeks. So it helps tremendously. :-)- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Here's another battery saving feature I strongly recommend: "LCD - Your Setting Is Off" (see picture). It's an oddly titled feature, but it's SUPER helpful and i strongly recommend using it.It means that (unless you press a button) the device alone can not autonomously turn on the screen by itself (as it does by default). But not to worry; "YOU" can still turn on the screen anytime you hit the shutter button.Furthermore - (even with LCD OFF), anytime someone approaches your door, you'll still get a blinking red light (so you can see "something" is outside your door); moreover, the unit will still take eight timestamped images (just as advertised / an image every 2 seconds) and save them to your SIM card for later viewing. It just won't turn on the screen as this is happening.I've gone back & forth on this feature, depending on my mood.Considering i live in an apartment building - if there are no threats in the area and i'm not expecting any visitors or deliveries - then do i need the screen to light up and drain my battery every time someone walks by my door? (Answer: "No." ;-) )- - - - - - - - - - - - - -Slight Lag, But It's Not a ProblemFrom the time it senses someone at my door (or the time i press the shutter button) the device takes a full 1½ seconds to turn on.This is not unreasonable for what the unit does, but it's still a factor to consider. So with this in mind - if we're expecting someone - only "THEN" do we have our LCD "ON". But otherwise no.So when someone walks "BY" my door - by the time the camera comes on, they've already passed through and exited the viewing area. But this isn't a complete loss for two reasons.1. If they didn't stop at my door, then what do i care what they looked like?B ) There's still a series of timestamped images, so even though i don't know what they look like - i still know "someone" was near my door at 6:27 pm (or whenever).- - - - - - - - - -Another thing you can do to conserve precious battery power is Turn OFF your screen each time you're finished viewing. Each time you review pictures (whether Live View or Simcard) - don't just wait for the unit to shut itself down.YOU should actively turn off the screen. You do this in 4 steps. It "LOOKS" complicated but it's really not; do it a few times, it'll come as 2nd nature (i'm here to tell you):1 - Press & hold the "DOWN" button (on the right side of unit). This will bring up a list of folders (starting with today's date, then yesterday, then day before, and continuing back in time) with "EXIT" at the top of the list (see picture).Use the UP and DOWN buttons on the side of your unit to move the highlighted selection up to "EXIT"...2 - You hit "EXIT" (i.e. once the highlight is on "EXIT", you hit the shutter button immediately beneath the LCD screen), which brings you to the "LIVE VIEW" (looking out your peephole), at which point you...3 - Hit the "DOWN" button once again, this time bringing you to the Menu Screen - (a list of options with "EXIT" at the top of the list.)4 - You hit "EXIT"; your screen goes black, and THIS TIME, you're through. :)Again - i know it 'SOUNDS' complicated, but it's really not - and it'll save you precious battery power. :)If it helps, just remember "Down-Exit-Down-Exit". :)- - - - - - - - - - -PROBLEM: If you press your shutter button (immediately beneath the screen) - sure, that'll bring up your LIVE VIEW, but it will only TAKE PICTURES (& save to sim card) if there's someone standing there in front of your door.Suppose you want to take pictures anyway (even though there's no one there).SOLUTION: Hit your shutter key FOUR (4) TIMES in rapid succession. This will cause the little light to come on in the upper right, and Yes, the imagery will be recorded to your sim card. :)- - - - - - - - - - -What about WIFI?Short answer - "I personally could not get the Wi-Fi feature to work" (which is why this review only got 4 stars, instead of 5).Wi-Fi setup is unnecessarily frustrating, and i could not get it to work.I'd rate myself as "better than average" consumer tech savvy. I've gotten other wifi devices (lights, thermostat, fans) to work with no problem. I edit sound, graphics and yadda, yadda, yadda - but I could *NOT* get the Brinno's wifi to work, and at the risk of sounding arrogant - i think the average consumer will be equally frustrated by this issue (as other reviewers on this page have expressed). But again - considering how good it is with everything else, for me personally, the wifi issue is not a deal-breaker.- - - - - - - - - - - - - -It's so cool to return Home from an outing and know with certainty whether or not anyone came by while i was out (and if so - who it was, and what time they were there.) Same is true every time i get up in the morning. "Did anyone knock on my door while i was sleeping?"A simple jab to the "UP" button on the side, and our screen comes to life (yes; even if it's set to "LCD OFF") showing us the most recent image, then the next most recent image, then the next - gradually "going back in time", showing us 15 seconds of pictures every time someone walked near our door! It's terrific! I'm glad i got this unit. Get it! You'll be glad you did!

Buy a Ring if you Can, If not this is faulty
The camera and sensor seem to have a mind of their own, working sporadically. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with this setup since I can't own a Ring device. It would be great to receive a discount considering the product's frequent faults, though it does manage to function adequately when necessary. Maybe I have a faulty device??Pros:- Offers a discreet peephole design.- Suitable for those unable to acquire a Ring, though a Ring would be preferable.Cons:- Given the number of issues encountered, the asking price should be significantly lower.- Battery life is disappointingly short; consider purchasing a micro USB charger.- The camera frequently disconnects from WiFi or loses its firmware ID, requiring a weekly reset by either unplugging the micro USB or removing the batteries.- Camera quality leaves much to be desired, but it is sufficient.- The accompanying app feels more like a website and clunky; it's puzzling why there isn't a direct login option on their page for viewing on a laptop. Maybe security risk, but still.- I encounter a "ws() error" in the app on a daily basis, disrupting functionality.
