Review: 3 months after purchasing.
We have three cats. One is not motivated by food at all. The 2nd is an older cat with medical issues that requires special food and likes to slowly graze on food all day. The 3rd cat is an overeater piggy crackhead who will eat all three bowls of food if left unattended. The 3rd cat (piggy crackhead), is the type of cat that will try to eat through cat food bags and hoover food down without swallowing. He is tenacious when it comes to attaining food, so we were hesitant to purchase this cat feeder at first. Neither my husband nor myself were sure if it would be sturdy enough (or work properly) in order to keep piggy crackhead from gobbling up our 2nd cats food.We knew, without a doubt, that the additional purchase of the rear cover would be required in order to have any hope of it working. We bought both the feeder and rear cover and kept our fingers crossed it would work.We purposely waited three months before writing this review. We wanted to see and make sure it worked well enough before giving a verdict. The good news is, the feeder works great. Our piggy crackhead cat has given up even trying to get or 2nd cats food. It works way better than we ever imagined it would. At first, it was hilarious to watch him try to get into the feeder. Our 2nd cat would pull her head out whenever piggy stuck his head in. It was so funny to see the cover close. Even funnier when the 2nd cat would give him a whack of the paw whenever he tried to raid it. It only took about two weeks for piggy to finally give up on that feeder. We were (and have continued to be) amazed at how good it works.Important to know: 100 percent you will need the rear cover for this feeder to work with a food motivated pet. You will need C batteries. So far we have not needed to change the batteries after three months. The motor is quiet and it did not scare our cat at all. The unit is super easy to wipe down and clean. The programming / set up was very easy with the microchipped cat. We did not use the collar tag, so no idea if that works or not.The feeder has been a blessing for our medical needs cat. She is older and needs to eat small portions and be able to graze 24/7. It is such a luxury to be able to watch her eat her special diet without fear of being bullied out of her bowl by the other cat.Long story short: The feeder is worth every penny. It is the best purchase we have ever made for our cats.

Saved us SO MUCH MONEY
We have three cats. Two of them are excellent self feeders, and one is not. Heimdall and Freya both are good at feeding regulation, but Baldur was close to being diabetic....until we got this feeder. We decided to go with two different types of feeders. One of them (this one) is a microchip feeder, which is extremely expensive, but both Heimdall and Freya are very good at regulating their own free feeding and we didn't want to take that away from them. Freya especially needs to keep weight on, so the microchip feeder is programmed to the two of them. Baldur also eats extremely expensive food. Before we started this feeding system, they were all free feeding from the same area and eating the same food. His food costs around $120 per bag and we were buying it almost every month. We are now able to feed Heimdall and Freya more affordable food that is still good quality without spending a crazy amount of money on cat food like we were previously. The second feeder we got is an automatic feeder. This is specifically Baldur's feeder. It goes off three times a day and feeds him around a quarter cup of food each time. It contains his expensive food, is extremely reliable, and we haven't had to change the batteries once. We absolutely love both of these feeders. This feeder can be found here: https://a.co/d/03uv9ksGWe decided spending a bunch of money on really nice feeders up front was worth a) saving money on crazy expensive food that all three cats were eating and b) saving money by not having a diabetic cat, which Baldur was at risk for. The price tag was very intimidating but I haven't regretted it once. Baldur has lost 3 lb ever since we implemented this system. It is clearly working well. We are beyond happy he's in better health AND we only need to buy the expensive cat food every 4-6ish months now.I recommend this feeder. It works very well. Sometimes the lid does stick, but only if you overload it with food. Don't do that and it works great.

My cats love it
My cats love it and so do I. This is one of the best purchases I’ve made for them. It’s very easy to use and set up. You will need a break away collar but this purchase comes with 1 fob that is used to open the door so the cats have access to the food. It’s perfect for wet and dry food and I’ve had no problems with it and it works well. It’s very sturdy but I do wish it came with the back cover so other cats are not able to steal food while one cat is eating. This is my third one that I bought (one for each cat) and would definitely recommend this if you have more than one cat! It does take C batteries and they are not included
