A most excellent resource book for architects, designers and artists
This is a bible for architects, designers, and artists! Bought it when it was over $100 and in three volumes. I love this book because I can depend on it for everything from accurate color combinations to easy-to-read details. You will find inspiration from flipping through the pages or researching transition details.

A1 teacher/artist resource
Indispensable resource for teachers and artists. Wealth of design examples from a wide swath of civilizations and eras, beautify your handwriiten pages with border design and motifs from this book! I have used it over and over for inspiration, my students love it too.

Bad printing, details in photos lost on almost every page
Horrible misaligned prints and limited color range. The details are muddied from misprintingnon almost every page. Not worth the price for a reference book for patterns.

Delicious!
Splendid illustrations. Mostly preserved original 19-century language - very cute. This book is my new favorite

Forgotten Art
It's an amazing catalog to study and understand the logic of decor.

Great content - Terrible printing
The colors from the original have been altered and overly saturated so it is difficult to see the finer details of any pattern. Print quality is very poor with things off register and colors bleeding into adjacent design units.Paper quality is excellent with signatures sewn and not glued. I am very disappointed in the illustrations and prefer to use the Internet Archive to see the patterns. Pattern design was the focus of my graduate work and has continued through all my creative endeavors.
