Wonderful headphones, this album sounds great in them.
These headphones offer incredible sound quality and are very easy to drive. They sound great through my phone's 3.5 mm jack and INCREFIBLE through my portable DAC.They leak sound like a sieve, so they're not great for the the bus. But I actually enjoy wearing them around town when I WANT to be aware of my surroundings.

High quality, hand made headphones at a great price.
These are fantastic quality at this price. My first pair of high quality headphones - so I wanted something with great sound but was not ready to make the leap and spend more. I like that they are hand-built in the US. I'm sure other reviewers note it, this is best used at home, by folks with high-quality audio systems.I listened to some of the less expensive Grado options and they just didn't quite have the balance I was looking for, too much mid and high, without quite enough of the lows. This model nailed it for me.

definite upgrade from SR60s
Ok ive had a set of SR60s for >15 years. they are good solid performers. Ive always appreciated thier build, simplicity and good range. The SR60's also hbave punch on the low end which ive never heard one anything other than sound booth over the ear gear.Well I've been interested in what the SR225s were like for years. most reviews really put these qs the winner for quality to dollar. H3ll yeah they do!! Wider range deeper bass very clear vocals and precise even when the media gets complex.

This is the sound I’ve been looking for.
Wow! I have been desperately seeking an exciting headphone for a while now. I was always curious about Grados but their reputation for being “shouty” and bass deficient kept me away.Well I’m really glad I took the plunge because my time with these so far have been really thrilling. These are not bass deficient, they’re just so great at doing everything else, that the bass is outshined. Guitars and vocals sound so amazing, revelatory for me, it’s as if I’ve been neglecting a whole spectrum of sound for years now. It’s been emotional to revisit some of my favorite music through these. Classic Metallica, Tool, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk have never sounded so good. I find myself easily picturing the instruments being played, each one well defined.I also find them to be surprisingly analytical despite their visceral sound. Recordings like Pet Sounds really show their age through these, but I can live with that. For reference I’ve owned Hifiman 400i, Nuraphone (don’t laugh), Sennheiser 598s and 580s, Audio Technica M50x, Beyerdynamic 770s, and lots of iems. These definitely stand out as special. You do have to experiment with their fitting for the best sound, the cord is quite heavy, and the earpads take a little getting used to but I’m still giving them 5 stars and encourage anyone who’s not familiar with the Grado sound to give these a try.

What has happened to Grado quality?
I've had about six pairs of Grado headphones over the last 15 years and this latest X version is stunningly poor. Let's just discuss the build quality. When pulling it out of the box and putting it on my head the first thing I noticed immediately is that the right cable coming out of the ear was about 3 in longer than the left cable and they had simply just stuffed all the slack in the earphone obviously this made it very uncomfortable with the wire hanging off to an angle since the wait wasn't distributed. The second problem is the headphones were incredibly crooked and I couldn't figure out why in fact when you held up the headphones to each other with the top band level and the earpieces perpendicular to themselves one was about two inches higher than the other so that when you put it on your head the top of the headphone was touching your ear but the bottom was having a huge gap. And again very uncomfortable and strange.Third problem, they didn't screw in the gimbal steel pin into the plastic headphone ring and it was wiggling on the opposite ear and eventually after about 2 days fell off entirely.Fourth problem they didn't snap the left bracket onto the headband Springs Steel and the opposite side fell off.5th cosmetic issue when they were doing something with heat near the headband they melted it with either a soldering gun or something else but just above the letter L in left the headband had a big melt.I'm just shocked at how pathetic the quality was and how almost every aspect of this headphone was built incorrectly eventually the second metal screw that goes into the gimbal was loose and broke the other piece in half. Incredibly disappointing.Sound quality, pretty pleasing. Definitely toned down highs since the days of the old Grado. Pretty spacious with nice detail in the mids and highs and a pretty good thump in the low end I tested them next to a pair of 125x and there's a noticeable difference in clarity. The 225 is definitely the value pick in the series. Unfortunately I sent these back and replaced them with some Hi-Fi man sundara which were for the time being much more pleasing to listen to way more spacious and big but eventually I may get another pair of Grado. But they need to stop relying on their tradition and history and start working with some other manufacturers because it's pretty clear they're not able to keep up with demand and maintain quality control.

Grado Prestige 225X (Vs 325X)
I initially bought the aluminum 325X and the sound was incredible. I don’t understand why Grado didn’t keep the foam pad. Being heavier, the 325 started to hurt the top of my head after a couple of hours. So I returned them for a pair of 225X. Being made of plastic the sound is less sharp and not as precise, but definitely much more comfortable. I added a DAC XD05 Plus and here we go, a happy audiophile without spending a fortune.

Quality Sound
Although these headphones may be lacking a little in comfort, they more than make up for it in their sound. I had the SR80’s before and had a problem with the cord. These far exceed those in quality.

Really good new Sr225 iteration from Grado. But sold as new, arrived with an open squashed box.
The Sr225x is a great headphone, with strong warm bass and a well defined punchy sound. Interesting the return of the flat pads in this new iteration of the Sr series. Why 3 stars? Because the headphones arrived with the box already open (and in a sort of bad way). The headphone itself was perfect, but it was not any good to buy a "new" item that is not new, or at least an open box, with a squashed box.

No frills, just great sound
The SR225x are like something from the 1930s visually. However sonically they are incredible, the balance is very well judged and there is a real sense of space and air around the instruments. They do let a bit of sound in and out so people will know what you are listening to if they are in the same room. Probably not great commuting headphones, these headphones are more for intensive home listening. The SR225xs are quite comfy after a few days use, although initially they are a bit odd to wear as the pad sits right on the ear rather than surrounding it.The build is robust and the cable is very substantial and premium feeling.
