Montane Mens Podium Pull-On RRP £120

For context I'm no athlete, nor do I expect to be fell running anytime soon (or ever). I'm certainly not the target market for this product. However, I enjoy getting out for a few kms most days of the week and this jacket has transformed the enjoyment I take from that in inclement weather.I class myself as a "fair weather" runner - if it's raining outside, I'm not overly motivated to get out into it. This jacket has changed that. Rather oddly, since it's most certainly *not* waterproof, at least in my experience. I've been out on a number of short duration runs (~30 mins) in light rain and the jacket has always allowed *some* water through. However, it makes the experience that much more comfortable, especially those first 1-2 km whilst warming up. I think this is in part due to it certainly being very windproof. In that respect, I've also found it to be a boon when the mercury is hovering around freezing temperatures. At 2-5c, it has made starting out so very much more appealing, without me being overheated enough an hour later to need to take it off. I've run in it in temperatures up to 10c, for around an hour, to the same effect. Beyond that, I expect it to become too warm - I've not really noticed any breathability to it, so at some point thermal performance will definitely become a problem.I measure a 38/39" inch chest and the medium came up as perfect sizing for me (for reference, I wear medium in Ron Hill, Adidas and most other brands); not too loose so as to be catching and flapping about in any wind but also not so tight as to be difficult to put on/take off or to constrain movement. The elasticated hood fits very well and doesn't allow wind or rain to get under it even in very blustery conditions. It is incredibly lightweight.An expensive luxury for a jogger but a purchase that I'm glad I made. Four stars only, since despite being marketed as such, and for all its lack of breathability, it really isn't waterproof by practical definition. Also, I have some concerns for it's longevity. Hopefully I'm just conflating its gossamer like weight with fragility.

I really like Montane products and recommended them as a brand. However with the podium jacket and pants be aware that they are for mountain racing or ultra marathon type stuff. Very lightweight but VERY delicate. Forget wearing these on trails with a lot of bramble or hedgerows etc they will literally fall apart in no time. I'd say the durability is not much better than a bin liner and that is a serious comment. They are pretty good at keep water out but no where near as effective as a gore tex type membrane. The high cost is due to the user light weight and should be no indication of the robustness of this product. They are also on the small side for Montane products, I'd go one size up TBH. Very much a specific piece of clothing for certain low drag, high speed activities only.

It's waterproof and fits well but I do sweat with it which is a shame. I do warm up really easily though so I'm not putting it down to the jacket. It's easy to pack though and very light so when I warm up I put it in my back pack.
