exactly what I was looking for
I was shopping for cork to use in my sons room as a bulletin wall. I prefer the look of the dark, chunky cork over the light, fine textured cork although it is made up of larger pieces and does tend to crumble a bit more when handling it. Cutting the material is a bit challenging, I used a sharp, non-serrated knife and a gentle sawing motion, this seemed to keep the crumble to a minimum and gave me a fairly clean cut line. After reading several negative reviews regarding the adhesive tape I decided to use construction adhesive, however the tape which comes with the cork is really helpful at holding the cork in place while the adhesive dries. I selected the type of adhesive which specifies use for paneling and other porous materials. I used the tape squares on the back corners of each tile and then spread a thin layer of adhesive evenly over the back side of the cork and pressed firmly. There were a couple of areas, mostly at corners, where small voids in the material allowed the wall to show through. I took some of the small pieces that I had trimmed off and glued them into the void with the construction adhesive. I am very happy with the end result. Now that the cork is up on the wall, the crumbly texture is not an issue and I have had no problem with it adhering to the wall.I noticed that some reviewers complained that the cork was too thin. I purchased the 4 pack in which each tile measures 2/5 inch thick, this is thick enough for most push pins which the cork holds nicely. The cork tiles in the 8 pack are half the thickness, and may be better suited for a purpose other than a bulletin board.

Love them - don't believe any of the negative reviews!
I love my cork board wall! I took a chance with these because there are a lot of negative reviews about the smell and fragility of the cork. Based on my experience, this just wasn't the case. Yes, they were a little fragile, but as with most things....handle with care. Yes, they had a slight smell, but it's natural, untreated cork... so what. I probably could have attached them to the wall without using mod podge on both sides, but I used it any way with great results. One reviewer said they had to be mounted on a board for stability, but that wasn't my experience. The mod podge seals them and make them more stable, and does, ever so slightly, deepen / darken the color. (It was time consuming for the size I wanted to create - see photos.) This is an authentic post, which may not seem like one since I'm being so positive, but I had serious reservations about buying them because there were so many negative reviews. I needed a total of 12 squares and those, along with 3 bottles of mod podge plus brushes, cost about $60.

Needed a few tweaks...
The tiles are dark brown as described...perfect for what I needed. They do (as others have described) "shed" a bit. After I applied them to the wall, I used my dust buster and vacuumed them. That has cured the "shedding". The tiles are thick enough for my use, but I could see how others thought they were thin. They are true to the measurements provided. The biggest issue I had with them was the sticky squares provided for mounting. It took me a few minutes per sticky square to get the backing off both sides (they are like double sided tape) to expose the adhesive. After four of the sticky squares, I stopped and went to the hardware store and bought brand name (3M) squares. Save yourself some time and a lot of aggravation and do the same. Otherwise, I am pleased with the cork tiles. I would recommend with the "fixes" I have noted in my review.

Mod Podge and One Downside!
As other reviewers have said, cover with a coat or two of Mod Podge! I used Mod Podge Waterbase Sealer, Glue and Finish (16-Ounce), CS11302 Matte Finish and they came out a richer deeper brown. They are pretty crumbly and dusty out of the package. The dark tiles do have a campfire/wood smell to them but will vanish with the sealant. I am not going to use the provided adhesives and instead use Command Large Picture Hanging Strips, White, 14 Pairs, Four Pairs Hold 16 lbs (PH206-14NA) - Easy To Open Packaging in hopes of not damaging my walls. It will likely damage the tiles but for <$20 I can make another set.Only downside is a standard pushpin WILL come out the back side just a bit so use caution or shorter pins.

Not a good quality
I was disappointed with a quality. I purchased three packs. Most of boards were not as firm as others. With big holes through, also they were crumbling. So I had to vanish them on both sides to keep them in one piece. Also sticky tape provided was peeling off. So I and up duetting better quality from hard ware store.

Beautiful but fragile
The tiles have a beautiful dark color but they are brittle. Handle with care, do not drop and glue all the back surface before use otherwise they will not last long. Otherwise, if handle properly and mounted on a hard surface, they should be used as a pin board for quite long.
