Q: Is there really a knife in these bracelets? How large is it and how sharp? I intend to give them to boys as gifts.

I wouldn't call it a knife, but a serrated edge that is not as sharp as your Reynold's wrap. It's part of the female side of clasp and I believe is intended more for striking the flint post on the opposite side of the clasp. My 10 y.o. and 14 y.o. have these and they handed the rest out to younger kids in our neighborhood. No one has had an issue. I thought they were versatile, neat gifts with some primitive practicality. Kids love them and I'd recommend.

Q: Why all of it the knife,whistle ifvyou are.going hunting or fishing .just to wear them around?

You never know what situation you'll find yourself in. This is a primitive tool that is by no means a true device for serious outdoor activities, but it's a practical item to have for that "what are the odds" scenario. i.e. your boot strap breaks, cut the paracord to replace it; your kid wanders off, blow the whistle to alert him to come back; you get turned around on your hike, use the compass to get you turned in the right direction. Sometimes just gone fishing turns into more than you anticipated.

Q: How do you adjust size?

Use some of the cord will shorten the band. Iv done it for all 4 of my children and wife. Hope this helps

Q: Why all stuff and is it safe?

I don't know what "why all stuff" means but they seem to be decent quality and safe. One of ours the whistle didn't work unless you blew really hard but otherwise they were fine.
