We live in a house with very thick stone walls. To make things more complicated, the walls aren't always the same thickness all the way around, depending on the period when the part was built.That makes buying pipework a case of either buying loads of pipe and cutting to size, or using something like this which has all the expandability I needed to get through the wall all the way around.Basically, this means that you can fit the pipe with a great peace of mind: You don't need to measure it to the millimeter to ensure the cowling is flush to the wall. Instead, you can push the outer pipe into the wall, cement/expandafoam it into place, and then later just fit the inner piece into the cowl and then push it into the outer pipe from outside. It'll just slide in, and when the cowl is flush, just drill and screw the cowl when it's in place. No measuring required.Very simple, yet very useful idea, especially for those of us with wonky walls where "trial and error" is more powerful than measuring, cutting, cursing, throwing-away, re-cutting (rinse-repeat) :)
