When Runa´s father disappears on a Viking journey she steps up as head of her family, but she is tormented by strange nightmares. One day when she is out hunting, she stumbles across a wounded warrior who carries news of her father, news that seem connected to her dreams. Something is coming for them, something vile.

Largely a mood piece, not a swashbuckling action movie - need to take it on its own terms
Many of the bad reviews seem to be expecting something like the Vikings series, and are disappointed. That's not what this is trying to do. It wants to set the atmosphere with a deliberate, measured pace. To get into this, you want to calm down and absorb the vibe. The filmmaker wants you to settle in to this rural setting and feel like you live there, before the pressure gets ratcheted up.It may hurt the film that this is on Freevee, with all its commercial interruptions -- because soaking up the ambiance is a big part of what the film intends you to do in the first 45 minutes. As it goes along, we figure out that this is partly a coming of age story, and partly an adaptation of an overlooked bit of Norse mythology (can't say what, without it being a spoiler). The filmmakers made the most of a very small budget and gave us a slice of mythology not seen in other films of this genre, interwoven with a workable hero's journey, an a very authentic, earthy setting. Really in Sweden, with Swedish actors. With a bigger budget they could've done more character-building scenes, and then it would've been even stronger. So it is not perfect, by any means. But still solid, when accepted on its own terms. Arguably a 4-star movie, but giving 5 stars to help compensate for all the unjustified 1-star reviews.

Helps if you know viking lore...
It does help if you know things about Vikings, it is not needed, just would be confusing for you. It seems like they set up a part two, but I think the mom died at end. Either way you can figure it out. It is not a bad pace movie, a bit slow at times, not bad tho. At times it is hard to see what is going on especially the fight at the end. Also you will get confused who is who with the mom and daughter they look so much a like at times. Over all if you like zombies to a lesser degree and family issues that are not your families, then you will like this. The accent is deep with this movie as well, so maybe you will need some subtitles if you do not understand it much. Like i barely understood the little girls name, lucky for Amazon XRay info lol

Good story.
Slow pace. More drama than action.

Genuine
First off genuine Norse Saga lore of "Zombies" The "Sendegar" are a "real" little known physical ghost in the Norse Sagas who take a physical form. This was not for those who want coked up Vikings smashing beer bottles over the head but real folks who had a life outside of going a "Viking". They handled the social life and the midwinter festival so well without the need to make it "Pagan" because they were it. Brilliant movie. I liked the mainly Scandinavian actors. You don't have to be the ethnic culture you play but it is refreshing when First Nation actors play" Indians" or Jews play King David or oh my even Jesus. Really unique with a lot of heart and the soul of the northern forest.

Slow but consitent burn. Worth watching.
Its slow, but for good reason and it is consistent which helps keep your attention. Very well made with the exception that others have stated regarding costumes and arrow quivers and such. These things appear "too new" which is problematic because it kills the immersion that it did such a good job building up. Items like this need to be artificially aged so that they don't stand out and constantly remind you that this is actually a movie set with actors and costumes. However, this is something seen in even very high budgeted movies as well so its nothing new, but it simply is about the only thing negative that caught my attention. Costumes and such were very well made and look very authentic otherwise. Acting was mostly flawless. Overall it was entertaining and easily kept me interested.

Low budget, beautiful scenery.
A bit slow in parts, but a fun movie for anyone into 'viking' fiction.
