fast moving very satisfying read
This story was fast moving and so well written I was guessing until the end what the final plot twist was going to be - the characters were gritty and real - looking forward to more from this great author

Entertaining!
While the subject matter is unsettling and horrifying (trigger warning for bullying and abuse), I feel that the author did a good job of describing what happened without going too graphic. The character development was perfectly paced and by the end of the story, I’d definitely become emotionally invested. Great read!

True crime podcast
A journalist turns an old case into a true crime podcast. She wants to poke and unravel the secrets of this town until the truth of that night comes rattling out. Twenty-four years ago Clay Pelley admitted to killing Leena Rai. Leena was an outcast in Twin Falls. She was bullied and unpopular. Clay was her counselor and tutor.Rachel Walczak was the detective on that case. After Clay admitted guilt the case was closed leaving unanswered questions. This case destroyed her marriage and caused a rift in her relationship with her daughter.Trinity Scott wants to interview Rachel. That case messed her up. Asking questions is dredging up difficult memories. Leena’s murder changed the town. Her podcast is designed to get the truth about that night. Clay has agreed to let her interview him. Trinity releases the recorded interviews to her listeners.I’m reading Beneath Devil’s Bridge coming off The Drowning Girls. I’m finding a few similarities between the two books. Although, this is a standalone mystery thriller. The drowning girl, the sexual abuse, and the religious undertones are reminders from that book. Common elements as a detective is the destruction of relationships between parents and children and spouses thinking they care more about the case than them. Bringing in another outside experienced detective joining forces. This podcast is going to start raising unfounded suspicions about people in this town. These similarities remind me that some writers use templates to create a story. The one unique difference is the podcast which is used to prickle readers curiosity. While this tactic proved effective not all her methods were as effective. I thought this was a slow brewing story with an execution style that left me unable to hold my attention. My favorite scenes were those of the podcast. I found myself eagerly awaiting those chapters. The rest was okay. I knew early on this book was a 3 star read. It was not as exciting as the Angie Pallarino series. Those have a flurry of tantalizing activity. However, this story did come alive around the seventy percent mark. Once the truth unraveled the writing becomes more energetic.Narrators:Lauren Ezzo is the voice of Trinity Scott. Lauren has voiced other Loreth Anne White audiobooks. I’ve grown accustomed to her tone of voice. She has a suitable sounding voice for these mystery thrillers.Laural Merlington is one of the female performers in this audiobook. I’m unfamiliar with her voice talents. If I had to deduce my calculations I’d say she’s the voice of Rachel. It’s not the tone I would’ve imagined for a retired detective. It’s a pleasant voice to listen to. I much prefer the narration of Lauren Ezzo.I listened using the audible app at 2.2X speed. I own both the ebook and unabridged audiobook allowing me to follow along with ease.

Excellent!
Brilliant and topical way to present a ‘cold case’. Page turner with believable characters, emotions and attitudes to bring renewed awareness of and insights into bullying.

Un-put-downable!
I think I bought this as May's first reads and thought it looked the best of the bunch. When I started reading it the word Blog, came up and I thought: Have I made the right choice? Well I certainly had as it was a captivating read from the start. The blog part was a big part of the story and was relevant, though there were a few repeats of the blog text especially towards the end. Other people have already explained the premise of the book so I won't go into that. It was well written, kept you guessing until the last, and touched on a subject matter that is very relevant today. It was also nice to read about a part of the world I went to on my honeymoon. It took me straight back. I was reading until the early hours to find out what really happened. I highly recommend this book. I finished the book yesterday and I'm still thinking about it.
