Very useful for the novice decorator.
I first discovered this book at the library and years later I came across it on Amazon while searching for something else. I was actually in need of it again and recalled the great tips and rules of furniture and accessories placement, based on sizes and styles. The simple drawings include a variety of types and styles of furniture and accessories. ie. chairs - club, slipper, wingback, etc.

I needed this more than I thought.
If you need the A to Z's on Design 101, this is the book for you. It's definitely called Home Decor Cheat Sheets for a reason. This is guide for D.I.Y.ers and budding home designers a like. I love how it breaks down and simplifies what and what not to do. There even illustrations that clearly point out with a X or a check mark, what works together and pictures of didn't styles of fixtures and furniture that make it that much easier to be clever when talking to others on home improvement. Although simplicistic with pictures and symbols, I never felt that the book was treating the reader like they didn't know anything. The author found the best way to make a lot of information easily digestible. As much as I love physical books, gotta love a Kindle edition as you can pick and choose your chapters with just just a click, which makes it much easier when you're looking for particular information. After perusing the whole book, I went back and looked up the chapter on design and decor tricks. Proportion and scale are always something I've had trouble with. I've bought furniture before that didn't work for the space just because I liked it. Now I have have a better idea how to make my space and style fit together. This will be a go-to in my reader any time I have a home improvement bug.

Perfect book to teach you basic home decor
I work for home decor manufacturing company and I just hired a new assistant and thought this book would be helpful. She knows absolutely nothing about the different types/styles of lighting and furniture categories we make. So I searched amazon for a textbook or something to help her learn about what we manufacture and I came across this book. And it was better than I could imagine! As well as showing you how to decorate a room, create a gallery wall and painted a door, it tells you the many different styles of chairs, lamps, tables, etc that you would use in those rooms! I even loved that they told you what size rug to buy to go with different size dining tables and/or living room sets. It gives you the perfect basic knowledge of home decor. It is perfect for some one in my job as well as people who stage houses to sell. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in home decorating. After buying the first one for my new assistant, I bought 5 more for additional new hires at my office and now I am buying 10 more to stock our office!

You've got to be kidding ... <smh>
This book is an embarrassment to anyone over 12. In fact, I'm convinced that those people rating it 5 stars and following up with an enthusiastic paragraph must be the creators' friends. This resembled a coloring book. It is embarrassingly elementary, as a former reviewer indicated (someone I should have heeded!) Without violating copyright law by taking a picture, let me give you an example: Pages 14-16 begin with two sentences alluding to the difficulty of purchasing a sofa. Page 14 follows up with simple colored illustrations of three examples of modern sofas. Page 15 shows four transitional sofa illustrations, and page 16 (you guessed it!) has three illustrations of classic sofas. Nothing else. Nothing about comfort, mixing and matching styles, etc. Zilch. The book continues in this unhelpful fashion. After a page illustrating six nightstands, we're treated to the helpful information that the best height for a nightstand depends on the bed. This is either the same height or a couple inches higher. There ... value for our 14 bucks. And so on the book goes ...I struggle with sounding unkind, but the title is correct: this book IS a cheat sheet--cheating me out of my money by giving virtually nothing in return except some simple drawings. There are two areas where the creators give us real information: How to paint a paneled door (which I'm sincerely glad to know), and how far lights should hang in different living areas. It's nice that they share all the parts of a table lamp (page 94)--like what a socket knob is--but not sure why that's helpful. The book has pretty colors, and if you have young children, I'm sure they'd be delighted drawing people in all the white space around the various little illustrations. Otherwise, I recommend saving your money and subscribing to a decorating blog or two--or even just doing some Google searches. There are so many good ones out there with truly helpful info-- and they're free.

Must have book to anyone furnishing a home
This book helped me immensely when I was furnishing my 1st new home! Educated me on the design styles and has ton of helpful hints like the proper ratio of end tables to couch in order to look correct in your space. You can always decide to ignore things but it helps you learn how to put a room together if you've never done it, or even if you have! Bought a copy for my best friend and it a perfect home-warming gift for new home owners.

This book is aamazing - it really helps creaete the perfect lingo when talking about furniture
UMMM whoever thought of this is a freaking genius. I never knew i needed this until I got it - mind blown. This book is aamazing - it really helps creaete the perfect lingo when talking about furniture. As someone who is constantly working how to save money until we can afford the perfect furniture piece, this book truly helped me nail a few concept ideas. I genuinely had no idea that there were so many different styles and names for things. I always thought I was a Retro girl but when it came to our kitchen stools, I was really a mid-century type of girl. Who knew? The book did. The visuals are fun and cute. I love the intro before each chapter which gives enough information to have a new perspective but doesn't overwhelm your mind in a pretentious way. Just thinking about the fact that tiles pattersn and shapes can change the lok and scale of a room completely was insight we hadn't thought about before. I appreciated the new perspective.Great book! Highly recommended.

Nothing of value
This book is extremely basic. It does not contain any useful tips or tricks. I see no value at all.
