Freaking amazing !
I could not put it down, it has been a long time since I was surprised like this by a book ! I loved it so much, I cried, got mad and even had nightmares. It’s an amazing story and you never see what is coming. A new favorite, someone should make this a movie.

Not a thriller. At all
I was highly anticipating this after the absolute stunner that was Jar of Hearts. This entire book was bogged down with emotionless filler and backstory. I’m honestly shocked it has so many good reviews. I ended up skimming the last half, so sick of all the backstory that added nothing the the unlikeable characters, and I missed nothing. There was zero tension, which thrillers are supposed to have. It was almost like depressing chick lit with stupid characters making stupider decisions.10 stars for JOH and I’ll read another by Hillier, but this was awful.

I Felt Every Dark and Justifiable Feel!
This book gripped me from the start with the horrible kidnapping of her young son. Afterwards, I remained interested but could still stop reading and go to sleep as the plot unwound. About halfway through the book, it became more gripping for me and I spent the day reading the rest through because I couldn’t put it down. Every emotion felt real, from the perspectives of Marin (who let go of her child’s hand, allowing the kidnapping) and through the perspective of Marin’s husband’s mistress. Later, when the facts and perspectives merge, there is much heartbreak to be distributed among the characters. Without spoilers, there are many twists and turns. Jennifer Hillier is a superb author who weaves a believable and twisty plot to its finish. It is a very intelligently and well written novel. I was surprised to learn at the end that the author had not outlined the book in advance. The life this story took upon itself had me flipping pages after the first half of the book. Highly recommend!!
