Q: Will it dig plugs in the soil easily

Yes. My husband uses it when he metal detects and has said it is excellent for digging out plugs easily. It is his go to shovel.

Q: Does this work for deep weed roots, where you have to dig straight down and to get the complete root out? Or is there a better tool design for this.

This tool is amazing. It will cut deep weed roots, brush / bushes roots, and small tree roots. I am sharing information with my lawn service workers about this tool.

Q: What is the blade length and blade width on this shovel?

Hello, The blade is about 9 inches long, 7.5 inches wide at the top of the step, and 2.5 inches wide at the bottom of the blade. Hope this helps!

Q: two things… good for oldsters wanting to turn soil ? several reviews say it broke… worrisome ?

I am a female oldster and it is perfect for me, light weight and easy to maneuver. I have not tried to break concrete with it. I use it for soil/dirt and there is no sign that it is going to break.
