When I opened these up I was shocked that they smelled like paint thinner or some kind of cleaner. BUT, once I inspected further I realized it was NOT the brushes. It was the carrying case that came with them. Once removed, the brushes had no odor at all. For those complaining about shedding, you simply need to crimp the metal to hold the brushes more securely. I use these for glaze applications on my bisque pottery. I have had no issues with shedding once I crimped the metal with needle nose pliers. Great brushes, smooth application, no streaks, no shedding, clean easily and hold their shape when dry. LOVE them

I personally like the brushes even though they scratch easily. The bristles do stain from dark/black colors.
