A mass grave has Mercy on her toes
This was a great read and possibly my favourite so far in the series. One of Truman's detectives stumbles upon bones while on a call out due to a damaged road during torrential rain. Several bodies are consequently found and the FBI is called in to take over. While there's a lot of unknown factors and mystery surrounding the find, it bears a resemblance to previous mass murders in the district where families were bludgeoned to death at home as they slept. Eerie? You betcha. With few clues on the original crimes as well as the current, the team races to try and find their killer. Add to that a missing person's case, possible criminal involvement from a sovereign citizen group, a hostile witness and survivor from one of the previous murders and Truman going missing and the book moves along at a great pace with plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you can probably get away with reading this one as a stand alone but personally, I think the previous books provide background of not only the characters but the prepper/survivalist lifestyle in Oregon that these books keep as a recurring theme. It's told from Mercy and Truman's point of view as well as a few sections from the killer's perspective thrown in for extra background. While I liked this addition, as with Book 3 I found the additional point of view had a bit of a stilted feel to it and didn't clear up anything for Mercy's investigation. It was more for the reader, which is fine, but it would have been better if the details were derived from the FBI and police who would continue to be clueless as to the motivation for the murders. As per the other books, there are a couple of cases going on at once which keeps things interesting. I find that Mercy and Truman seem to fall into the clues rather than uncover a lot, but it's still entertaining. The books continue to have a good cast of secondary characters and I'm really liking Evan Bolton, the county detective who's been popping up more and more. Mercy and Truman's relationship is going strong - I'd still like a bit more steam but their dynamic has definitely improved. As with the other books, I'm going to make a special mention of a review I read that said there was a lot of profanity. This seems to be cropping up under every book in this series and I don't know where it's coming from. Mercy isn't a major cusser so I just don't get what the reviewers are reading. I read this book a week ago and can't even remember there being any swearing, let alone Mercy being a potty mouth.Book Four takes place about two months after A Merciful Secret and there's a brief crossover with Lacey from another of this author's series which I loved. The massacre of families, including their children, made this book pretty gritty, as did Truman being taken. There was a good amount of drama and the build up to the end was a great read. I'll be continuing with the series.

I have read most of the books in this series. But reading again for the second time. Great books need reading over and over.

Another Excellent Story!
I believe this might be Elliot's best in the series yet! Multiple side stories mingled into one really great read - I absolutely loved this book. And I love how each story can easily be read as a standalone despite being a series. No cliffhangers, no wondering what did you miss in the book you skipped, no forgetting what you read in the last book; just one great story after another, each with the same primary characters, well thought-out secondary characters, interesting bad guys, and great writing. Excellent work.

Silence spoken so Loudly
The characters, the setting, the main and secondary storylines all create a wonderful reading experience. At times I had to force myself to stop reading. I wanted the book to last longer. But now, it is time to go onto the next Mercy book.

A Series I Highly Recommend with a Memorable Main Character
A MERCIFUL SILENCE (Mercy Kilpatrick #4) by Kendra Elliot is a cross between romantic suspense and mystery/suspense genres. Each book has a standalone mystery/suspense plot, but it also has a building romance involving the main characters of the series which may or may not be prominent in each story. The current book leans more towards being a police procedural with emotionally charged murders in the past and present with extremely high stakes for Mercy and Truman.FBI Special Agent Mercy Kilpartrick is called to the scene of a washed out road which exposes human skeletal remains. As she works to discover the identity of the remains, she remembers two families that were murdered in the exact same manner 20 years ago. The killer has always maintained his innocence and is still in prison. Copycat or has the wrong man been in prison all these years? When the sole survivor of one of the old murdered families returns to town, Mercy is not sure what to make of the woman. She asks for Mercy’s help because she believes she is being stalked. Mercy feels she knows more than she is telling about that long ago murder. Is she somehow a part of the current murders or is she a lose end that needs to be eliminated? As Mercy works her case, Eagle’s Nest Chief of Police Truman Daly has a unique traffic stop with a young man who shows illegal ID and claims to be a sovereign citizen. While jailed, he sends Truman a letter claiming he owns him 3 million dollars for an illegitimate arrest. Truman does not know whether to take this seriously or as a joke. These sovereign citizens do not want anyone interfering in their business. Truman and his police vehicle disappear and there is blood on the driveway.I could not put this book down!Mercy and Truman both go through so much in this book. Even as they are apart, it is the fight to get home to the other that gives them their strength. Mercy realizes no amount of prep can prepare her for everything. She learns it is OK to sometimes rely on family and friends. Truman’s love for Mercy is his strength and reason to continue on even when he thinks he cannot. This was definitely an edge-of-your-seat read with both cases having such high stakes.I believe you should read this series in order as the characters grow and change in each book as in real life. I highly recommend this series. Mercy is a memorable character.

Great book!
I loved this book! Perfect amount of suspense and romance. The only thing I would like to be different is there to be less profanity included. It doesn’t really add to the story and would have enjoyed it much more if I didn’t have to sift through it as I read.

Another fab edition to this series.
Yet again Kendra Elliot gives us another book for this series about FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick and her small town of Eagles Nest.Continuing on with the story of herself and local policeman Truman this book shows us more of their relationship and how they are truly adapting to life together after not expecting to have found love again in their life.Yet again there's been another murder and the FBI and local police need to find out who is responsible for the bones and skulls recently found after bad weather causes a landslide. After well written fast paced book that keeps you hooked onto the edge of your seat! Roll on book 5 for this series coming out next!

Loved it!
It's always difficult to write a review without giving away any of the story. Some people like to give a precis of the whole book, which I don't bother reading. All I will say is that this book was really good. As with all the "Mercy" ones. You won't be disappointed, so go ahead and lap this one up.

Wow this book was almost excruciating to read so many happenings and almost too much excitement kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m almost fearful to find out what happens next.
